Not quite on the same level, but one of my buddies and his brother went to see Allan Holdsworth and his band once, and severely overestimated how long it would take to get to the venue, which was just a small club anyway. So with well over an hour to kill, they head to the bar, and there's Allan himself sitting there getting hammered! An hour before the show, he's not just drinking, he's pounding doubles. So they sat and had a few drinks with Allan Holdsworth, then he says he's gotta start getting ready for the show, and excuses himself.

He screwed up a couple times during the show, but they stuck around to chat with him afterwards, told him how great he was. "Even pulverized?" he asks. Well, he was great considering that he was pulverized. But they didn't say that. But now, "pulverized" is our new favorite word for getting shitfaced.

The guy on the left is Jr's dad. Dude, that's only the tip of the iceberg of what a strange situation we have.

Our house has a 4-car garage out back that was converted into a fully functioning and livable 1 bedroom apartment. Jr. and his dad live there while Mrs. C and I live in the house. Not the most ideal way to do things, but it gives the specific benefit of Jr. not having to spend his life going back and forth between two different homes. And despite my own petty and selfish wishes that Mrs. C. and I have a home all our own, where I can have her all to myself, I know that Jr. has to come first. I'm not gonna lie, I'm selfish and it isn't news to her or anyone else, but I make the sacrifices that need made for Jr.'s sake. So yeah, we see each other every day and we get along great. We all drink and hang out at the pool and such, pretty routinely.

Want to go further down the trail to WTF-ville? My first wife was the reason I moved to PA. I moved here and met her family. Her family just happened to include her brother and sister. Her brother is Junior's dad. Mrs. C. was her sister-in-law.

Time goes on, my wife and I split, around the same time that Mrs. C. and her ex start drifting apart. She and I have a lot in common, we get together, and the family eventually comes to understand and be okay with it. Except for my ex, of course, who never really liked Mrs. C. anyway.

Here's how mean and spiteful and hateful my ex is: After she and I split, her brother and sister chose me over her.

So yeah, it's a ridiculously convoluted story and it's hard to follow, but it somehow manages to work.

Yeah, there's no reason why civilized people can't get along despite history. Happens a lot in my family. My mom's long time boyfriend became best friends with her ex-husband well after the divorce. That made two generations of three families that still get together for various holidays, gatherings and whatnot, and that's just from us. This sort of thing happens plenty within our various families.

The more time goes on, the more I hear similar stories like yours and it's cool to hear that maybe things like my situation aren't as uncommon as I probably let myself think they are.

With the Empire overthrown, it looks like Vader and some of his cronies have started a business providing event security. And Weird Al is pretty well off; he can afford the best.
