Love this new shirt...

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Penn looks gaunt, bordering on emaciated.

And did he call you boss?

Wow, Penn has indeed lost a lot of weight.  My first thought is that he's not 100% healthy these days, but maybe this was a deliberate move on his part.

He did not call me Boss and he seemed and acted perfectly fine but obviously that does not mean anything.  The show was great though, smart funny creative and magical. Much respect for those two.

Some rare pictures of Orbert looking happy while playing music.

I've been told that I look too serious all the time, especially when playing music.  I find that interesting, because I enjoy making music more than almost anything else in this world.  Most of the time, I'm busy checking out the babes in the audience while also concentrating on playing, and I guess I don't think about my own appearance.

I've therefore made a conscious effort recently to look like I'm having fun while playing.  Also, that looks better in general when playing live music.  It helps when the band looks like they're having fun.

Did they do the Cowboy thing? I thought that was the best part of the show I saw.

While I think it's kick ass that they do the meet&greet after the show, Penn was clearly in a hurry to get the hell out of dodge when I saw them. "You're up, boss. Your turn, boss. Come on, boss." Ten year old girl up next: "alright, boss. Up here." Teller was remarkably warm and friendly. Did some up close slight of hand for the kiddos and gave me a very sincere, two-handed handshake replete with eye contact.

Yup, they did the cowboy thing.  He probably did call me boss, I just didnt notice.  He didnt seem like he was in a rush, but when theres tons of people waiting to take a picture with you I can see how you are trying to be quick with everyone.  What I really liked about them both was how genuine they came off as.  Both seemed like such down to earth normal guys who really appreciated the fans and their own staff.  Really worth the price of admission and highly recommended to anyone making the trip to Vegas.

While I am hear, might as well share another trip from Vegas... from one of the many night clubs we hit up, Light at Mandalay Bay.  I am on the left.

I must say Orbert, when I watch a band play, I enjoy it a lot more when the band is smiling.  Now they don't need to be smiling constantly, but if I see the band is having fun, I am more likely to be having fun as well.

Iron Maiden is a great example, those guys have some of the biggest grins when they play and it rubs off, it helps that the music is fantastic too.

Yep, it's definitely worth the effort.  My thing now is trying to look like I'm having fun, all the time, in addition to my usual thing of never looking at my hands.  Some of the other guys in the band still spend way too much time looking at their hands when they play, so I guess I'm trying to make up for it a bit.  I mean, shit dude, you know what your hands look like and you know what a fucking guitar looks like.  Look up once in a while!  There's only so much I can do since I'm a back row guy, but the front line has a great singer and two guys who spend too much time looking at their guitars so hopefully people will notice that us guys in the back are at least having fun.

You've got a nice, cheery look going there, Guy. It works.

Thanks! :)

So, a four-day trip through four states and back, visited two colleges, drove a lot, and also saw the Bob Evans Museum and site of the original farm and stuff, so that was cool.  Ate lunch there too, of course, and it was great.

Do you ever dress up as Sister Jackie and have filthy conversations at restaurants, or shop for wildly inappropriate items? I couldn't possibly pass for clergy right now, but part of me would love to cut my hair off, shave, and dress up as a priest for mayhem and hijinks. If I ever do have to start presenting myself as a norm for some reason, that'll be the saving grace and one of those collars is the first thing I'm buying. The idea of standing in line at CVS with Zima, K-Y and the latest issue of Tiger Beat is far too good to pass up.
