Got together with my dad and my sisters last month for my birthday.  After my younger sister had to catch an early flight back, that left four of us, so we played some Mah Jongg.  No, not the stupid tile-matching game that silly Americans play using a Mah Jongg set, the actual card game otherwise known as Chinese Rummy From Hell.

Seriously, if you've never played Mah Jongg, the actual game, you haven't truly lived.

My Nana has a really old Mah Jongg set and we play all the time.  It's a lot of fun.  Its also really weird as I have no idea why or how she got it.

Is she Chinese, or possibly Jewish?  I know that Jewish folks play a variant of Mah Jongg, but the cards are the same (that is, you look at them and can tell that they're the same Chinese symbols).

No not at all, she's from the Pacific Islands.  She may have some sort of Chinese heritage but she's very tight lipped about her past.  My hometown has a well documented history of Chinese migration in the 1900's,  a lot of Mah Jongg was played amongst the Chinese community in particular parts of town, for money of course.  There may be some connection there, I don't know.

I'm pretty sure we play some bastardized version of the rules.  We only play one set of the flower tiles, and if they come up in your wall you just trade them for a tile from the other end of the wall. I'm not sure that's right.  I've heard that the flower tiles were the way you made money in the betting version of the game, but again that was from my nana and I'm pretty sure she knows jack about it as well :lol

Actually, that's part of the game as we play it as well.  If you draw a flower, you add it to the points in front of you and draw a new card (like Red 3's in Canasta, another hellacious Rummy game) from the other end.  The flower card is worth a meld all by itself.  Each meld is worth points, and certain flowers will double you hand, etc.

Why do you think he changed his FB handle to Cozmo Hagar??

Ok now it makes perfect sense.
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Yep.  I cannot tell you how very, very often I have people at gigs calling me "SAMMY!!"  All the time.  Hell, one time on the way home from a gig, we stopped in at the casino and while she was playing blackjack, I'm going for food.  I walk up to the counter and the guy in the back, behind the hot hold window sees me and calls me Sammy Hagar.  All this is fine, seeing as how I like Hagar.

I should totally start a Sammy Hagar tribute band.  But I don't own any red guitars.

you should totally use it to get free stuff.  Sign autographs (hopefully on a tittie); get free beer.  You know, beneficial shit.

We got a free meal once because our waitress thought one of our group was that singer from Korn. My guess is that they probably have a menu with his autograph on their wall somewhere (despite the fact that he signed it with his real and non-famous name).

My old roommate used to pass all the time for Brett Hull, even though Brett Hull had about 50 pounds on him.   More limited fanbase (you had to be a hockey fan AND know what Brett Hull looked like without a helmet on) but it did get some free stuff now and again.  No tittie signatures that I can remember, though.

Cozmo:  you should go to Cabo Wabo and walk in the place like you own it.   No, I mean like you REALLY own it.

I met Sammy Hagar's brother once. I think.

I was working security at the California Beer Fest in Ventura 2 years ago. Naturally I got posted up next to the stage while this cool bluesy band was playing. There was this dude who looked very much like he could be related to Sammy Hagar who was obviously with the band and was going back and forth from back stage.  Finally after a couple times in and out, he stops next to me and asks if it's cook if he smokes. I tell him sure why not... and he pulls out this big ass cigar, lights it up, and starts going on about the band playing and how he's known them for like 10 years blah blah blah. Then he mentions his brother and how his brother (who he didn't mention by name at first) is also good friends with them blah blah. He FINALLY introduced himself to me and said Oh yea I'm Sammy Hagar's brother. Not sure if he was serious or  not but he damn well could pass off as him if he wanted to.

If it weren't a 2,400 mile flight to Cabo (after having to drive to Newark first), believe me, I would TOTALLY do it.  :lol

It was our last day there so we figured to get a few last shots along that wall across from Big Ben. Then this random dude wanders over and takes our spot! My son got him in our picture.

I spent a few minutes trying to decide if I wanted to work my way out that median at l'arc de triomphe and pondering the insanity of that traffic circle; sheer mayhem. Then while I'm out there some guy walks right out into the middle of it and sets up a camera and tripod. Just this side of the blue van, between the two white ones, cars swerving all around him. I get the notion that collectively the French are pussies, but individually they have tres gros oeufs.

That sure is one crazy freaking rotary. We didn't go over to it. Just stopped and took some pics. I was indifferent about seeing the arc, but after seeing it, I was really impressed. Of the shit ton of pictures taken on this trip, the one of us infront of the arc is my favorite.
