We played three songs at the beginning of the service, one in the middle, and one at the end, all led by our Music Director, Shirley.
The "Special Music" and reason for this particular assembly was a song that Shirley had picked just for this service. It was a semi-lame Contemporary Christian Rock song (because most of them are), and there are at least two vocal parts, three or more during the choruses. Our best singer is Michael, but he was busy playing the violin and besides, he doesn't like semi-lame Contemporary Christian Rock. Shirley said she'd do one of the parts, and I ended up doing the other somehow. I sang a freakin' duet with our choir director.
They always do silly shit like put my name on a slide and give credit for the arrangement and, in this case, also co-credit for lead vocals. I hate that. I am fine with my name maybe appearing in the back of the program with some kind of credit, but I think it's utterly tasteless to put it on a slide. So I edited it.
Amy has a three-year-old daughter who is a brat and won't be quiet unless she gets to sit on Amy's lap while she plays. So she does. You can see that she's actually hanging on Amy's arm, but Amy keeps playing. She's awesome. I always have a good group of musicians to work with, which is great.
Okay fine, I'll admit it, it sounded pretty good overall. Good balance, and the vocal harmonies worked really well. Got a ton of compliments afterwards, which was nice but embarrassing more than anything else. I do not do this for the glory or the recognition or any of that. I like to sing, I like to make music, and yeah, I like to praise The Lord in song. Apparently people like it, so cool, I guess I'll keep doing it.
