My nephew lived out in Hollywood for 2 years.  One day he calls me and says, "Uncle, I have someone to talk to you".  He hands the phone over and this dude says hello.  He says he's Justin Beiber.  I started taking to him.  He told me he was our skateboarding.  No joke, he tells me to hold on and takes a selfie with my nephew and sends it to me while still talking to me.


It's really him.  My nephew calls me back later and tells me, "I hate to say it but he was cool".  "I never thought I'd say that".  LOL

We spent last weekend going through the mall with my 15 y/o going through about 8 sneaker stores looking at cool Nikes. I'm like, I need some new sneakers. My son and my wife both started laughing at me. 

My mother in law's husband is 80 and he has the exact same sneaker as me.

I've been just buying the same pair of New Balances for about 5 years now, every year or so, as they wear and tear.  I can wear them to work and it's just good for my flat feet, but I've loved them so much I just have no desire to shop for something else.  I am not stylish so I don't feel the need.

I go to the New Balance plant in Lawrence,  MA.  I love it there because I have to get the 4 wide sneakers and I use their inserts for my flat feet.

I didn't know New Balance were considered old man shoes. It makes sense, though. They have an army of podiatrists prescribing them every day. I do miss being able to grab a $30 pair of Reeboks, though. NB is expensive AF.

One of my best friends wife works for them. I'll send her a link to the shoes I find on their discount site and then she buys them with her 40% discount. Super cheap that way

Yeah, I'm onboard with the "old man" shoes thing too.  I remember it definitely wasn't cool to wear walking/running shoes out and about for everyday stuff.  But the comfort and support made it worth it, along with getting to that age where you stop caring what other people think about what you have on your feet.  I generally prefer Saucony.  But I find that it is easier to find NB cheaper for comparable quality, so I often go with NB.  Big 5 Sporting Goods typically has a couple of models on sale at any given time in a similar range to that site.  But the site is cool for the variety.

Unfortunately, the NBs I was--prescribed--aren't available anywhere but the brick and mortar stores. I didn't even see them on the outlet's website. I also take an oddball size and can't wear white shoes, so I'm pretty limited. Only way for me to save dough is to hold out until the sales tax holiday. The good news is that they do tend to last 3x longer than the cheep Reeboks I preferred, so it's not all that bad.

I say awkward/stupid stuff to both of them all the time.  I have never lost my special ability to say completely stupid things to pretty girls, and at this point I don't think I ever will.  It doesn't matter if they're strangers or friends I've known for 20 years; I'm a hopeless geek and have no social grace.  I've told each of them that I will say completely stupid things from time to time, and that I apologize in advance for whatever stupid shit comes out of my mouth, and retroactively for whatever I might have said in the past.  If anything, they should take it as a compliment because I have no trouble talking to girls that I don't find attractive; it's just the pretty ones that cause issues for me (I don't mention that I find nearly all girls attractive).  I figured a blanket statement said privately to each of them should cover me for a while, and I don't even care if they compare notes and figure out that I've said something like that to both of them.  I have to work with these girls and they need to know that I'm harmless, just an idiot.
