You have a full dinner plate. How do you eat your food?
« on: July 26, 2014, 10:22:16 PM »
I've always wondered how many others eat how I do. I'll start with one thing, finish it entirely, then move onto the next until my favorite food is the last remaining thing.

That's exactly what I do. I leave the best for last, like a satisfying reward I give myself for eating other, slightly less delicious food beforehand.
I feel strangely honored to be following up a post from Sir Walrus Cauliflower.

As a kid.............no 3 .   I used to even rank my chips from smallest to largest on a plate of fish & chips and save the biggest til last (so it was nice and cold  ::)  )

These days - no 1 , so voted for that.

I used to leave the marshmallows for last when I ate Lucky Charms. If I have a cereal like that these days, I'm more concerned every single bite has an acceptable marshmallow to non-marshmallow ratio.

I think it all depends on the food. If my favorite thing on the plate is something I like really hot, then I eat that first, otherwise I normally save it for last. For some reason, if I have corn on the cob I always eat it first. And then occasionally I'll go with #1. So I guess I sort of do all three options given the food that I have.

I eat everything in an order, rather than a bit of everything, but not from favourite to least favourite (or vice versa), so I don't have an option to choose.

It depends what I'm eating, really. When certain things are involved I eat them first, or with certain meals I have a specific order. But with other things it doesn't matter to me at all. It's never a case of favourite/least favourite first though, and half the time I eat a bit of everything, so I voted for that.

I'm kind of a snorlax. I may inhale it. I may indiscriminately devour each part one by one, I may go in order, sometimes I'll mix 'em all up and slurp it down, other times I may pretend I'm a fancy man and use a spork. Most of the time...I just fockin' wolf it. There's no option for wolf it. You...CURMUDGEON!

Variation on number 3. I eat each one in order from least favorite to favorite, but I only eat half of each thing at first. Then, I re-assess the order and make any necessary changes in the second go-around.

Either that, or completely random.

I rank mine in order of size of each individual piece for whatever reason. If I was eating hot dogs, fries, and Kraft Dinner I'd eat it in the order of Kraft Dinner, fries, and hot dogs. I don't know why this is the case.

I go clockwise, systematically eating one bite of each thing. Or, I do combinations, where if I have steak and mashed potatoes then I will combine the two and eat them.

A mix of option 1 and 3.

I'll always mix it up, but always take more of the food that I want to get rid of first.  I never soley eat one particular food though.

If it's a variety meal like a sunday roast with beef, potatoes, yorkshire pudding, vegetables etc -

It's best to have a bit of everything in each mouthful.

If it's a take-away like cheeseburger and fries - I usually either eat the burger or fries first. Not usually both at same time.

I tend to eat one thing at a time, but the order has nothing to do with how much I like a certain food.

I can't really answer the poll because it really depends on what's on the plate.

If I have two things and one is clearly better than the other I'll typically eat all of the bad stuff before moving on to the good stuff. If I have two things that are relatively equal in quality, but aren't meant to be mixed it will be somewhat random. If I have things that can be mixed well, it'll be even more random.

The one thing I will do, for sure, is save the best single bite until the very end. I like to finish my meal with the best possible taste left in my mouth.

I have no idea if this is true because I haven't researched it, but my wife got it from her nutritionist.

She claimed that research has shown that those who eat one thing on the plate at a time (as opposed to bouncing around from one thing to another) tend to have fewer problems with their weight.   I thought that was interesting because they were actually encouraging my wife to eat one thing at a time, and in a particular order as well.   She asserted that if you eat all your vegetables FIRST, it has a tendency to process better in your system.

Again, I don't know how much truth there is to it, but I thought it was intriguing.    I have always been fairly OCD about eating that way ever since I was a child, and I have never struggled with weight.   I eat all my vegetables first before eating anything else because I hate them and I want to get them out of the way, then I move on to the good stuff.

None of the above.

 - Salad/Bread
 - Appetizer
 - Meat
 - Side dishes in some order

Favorite/least favorite foods has nothing to do with it

When the OP mentioned "dinner plate" I assumed that any appetizer or salad had already been consumed.  So, just the actual meal.

Option 1, for me.

Pretty much this, I just ad lib myself through whatever's on there with brute force. I never feel the need to go fancy pantsy with my food.

I don't have a standard. For example, when it comes to McDonalds I'll always eat the burger first, then the fries and leave the coke for last but if I'm having let's say Indian food with lots of options I'll just take a bite out of each in no particular order. I guess that I do have a set order for specific restaurants or types of foods but sometimes I just enjoy chaos...

Probably option 1, although often times if I have pancakes, eggs and bacon, I'll mostly finish off the pancakes before eating the rest of the eggs or any of the bacon.

If that's the case, then there should be an option for being at a church potluck dinner and not knowing the proper protocol for engaging a woman in a group setting, who may or may not be giving off any signs of knowing you exist, therefore you must determine what order to eat your food in, to ensure she isn't sufficiently turned off.

None of the above, really. I sort of rotate. I start with trying everything to determine what is my favorite (you never know, especially if you're eating out or someone else is cooking), then I'll usually eat most of my least favorite things (but I don't finish individual things all at once- I'll take one bite of this and one of that) but will throw in small parts of my favorite, too. I don't save ALL of my favorite thing for last, but the last bite will always be one of my favorite thing.
