Guardians of the Galaxy was cool and all, but way over hyped.
I kind of agree. I still really liked it though and I'd put it near the top of the Marvel movies (below Avengers, Cap'n 'Murica 2, and maybe around Iron Man in quality) but I kind of feel the reaction has been a bit... overdone at times.

The hype ruined X Men DOFP for me. I thought it was really average.
I went in expecting/fearing the movie would be garbage and I was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't.  :lol

Inverse-hype ftw!

Kind of like how Frozen was a decent cute little movie, but has become a monster phenomenon that really shouldn't be? I think I enjoyed Tangled more.

I think I liked Batista's character more than the others.
He did a great job.

Exactly.  I was quite pleasantly impressed.

Finally got around to watching Cabin in the Woods. It had almost zero scares which was disappointing enough. But to top if off the story would have been at least decent if it wasn't for the pathetic, tacked-on ending that made me feel like I wasted my time watching the movie. Overall, it felt like it didn't have an identity and was just trying to mix every horror cliche together for no other reason than to be clever, but it just ends up being a confused mess that was barely entertaining and not all that funny.

Man I love CITW. All the cliches and the insane ending is what made it funny to me.  :-\

Well to each their own I guess. The ending made me think "That's it?" because it was over in a flash and was not surprising since it was pretty much given away earlier in the film. I'll admit though that I am interested in seeing a sequel.

The whole point of the movie was the cliches. If the teens did something smart, the programmers would force them into a cliche. Also, that ending was awdsome.

Cabin In The Woods had me until they got to the secret base and every single horror movie stereotype started happening. I don't care if that's what they meant to have happen, it took the punch of originality and fresh breath of air out of the movie and just got really stupid to watch. Why the fuck would there be a button to release every single monster in a checkpoint booth(I've seen people say it was to laugh at the idea of a big red button but fuck that, doesn't make it any less stupid and cringeworthy), with as someone else said, the tacked on as fuck ending.
Great first half completely ruined by the following half.

Of course IMO.

I thought Cabin in the Woods was 10 pounds of awesome in a 5 pound bag.

I've been on an Akira Kurosawa film binge lately, renting practically every film of his that's available at my college library. I haven't gone through them all yet, but by God, I'm amazed at how influential he was. :metal :hefdaddy

Yeah, it's weird.  Because Spielberg for example is influential in an obvious way.  Everyone's seen his films, they're wildly successful, so all big budget film now is borrowing from him in some way.  Kurosawa is very unknown except for people that are into film, but his techniques and storytelling are also present in everything.  Most famously, Star Wars appropriated a lot of his style.

Yeah I don't understand why Kurosawa isn't talked about in the mainstream general more since so many big name actors and movies have been influenced by his work one way or another after you hear his name get mentioned so many times. Also the number of movies he has made already is pretty huge but anyway I'm glad that I still have many of his films to watch.

I just looked at it again if you're talking about my post and have seen my mistake. I meant to say, "Yeah I don't understand why Kurosawa isn't talked about in the mainstream.." I need to proofread my posts more often.

Anyone else see Beyond the Black Rainbow? It's a brilliant, utterly creepy, surreal, and thought-provoking movie. Everything about it oozes atmosphere from the visuals to the cinematography to the soundtrack to even the camera angles. Can't recommend it enough.

Yeah, it's really incredible. Definitely one of my new favorite directors ever. Right up there with Bergman, Kubrick and Herzog in my opinion.
