Breathing some life into Polls/Survivors......
« on: July 26, 2014, 07:50:55 AM »
Hello everyone. There is an extreme shortage of active survivors going on right now. I created this poll in an effort for forum users to gauge is there is interest in a survivor/league/tournament/heal&hurt/power/whatever game for a given band.

Please vote for any band that you would participate in a game for.

This is by no means an all-inclusive list. I omitted a few bands that are currently being ran, or have recently been completed (Sonata Arctica, Transatlantic, Amorphis etc.)  You can suggest additional bands in the comments, and I can add them to the poll, or create a 2nd poll if need be.

If you'd like to run a game, and need help/advice, there are plenty of us who are willing to help you out. If you want to run a league similar to DT the League, I can help you generate a schedule.

P&S, serious business :)

I wanted to run Kamelot or/and Nightwish when SA survivor is done, so I'd be down to play these ones, if anyone hosts.

Also, I'm a big fan of Blind Guardian, so I'll play this one as well.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

I'd like to see a Rush survivor.  However, that would be a huge undertaking with their extensive discography.  I would offer to run it, but have never run a survivor before.  Not really sure how it all works.

Fates Warning, Symphony X, and Queensryche are a few others I voted for.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it not that long ago that we had a Rush survivor?

I'd be really interested in a Porcupine Tree survivor, since I only recently got into them more. Or an Anathema survivor, though they didn't appear on your list.

Voted for Genesis, Led Zep, PT, and Tool. I'd be quite happy to participate in any of those.

I already voted, but for clarification:

There were some bands on the list for which I have most but not all of the discography. So I would be able to participate, but not for the whole thing. Should people still vote for cases like that?

I'd love a Porcupine Tree survivor, especially as I now own all their studio albums, and know all the songs pretty well.

Also, while I'm here, would anyone take part if I ran a Liquid Tension/Trio Experiment Survivor? And would you still vote when it comes to the Trio albums? I'd like to run that tournament, but I don't want most of the voters dropping out after the first two albums like the failed Blackfield survivor.

For me, Fates Warning and Queensryche would be the freshest survivors to do

Sabbath, Maiden, Rush, SX, Iced Earth, Metallica have been done recently, but I would still partake in them.

Not sure if there would be much interest in
-Saxon
-Dio
-Kiss
-Van Halen

I know the Rush survivor was just a while ago, but I'd be happy if it was run again, because a year ago I didn't own even half their albums - now they've become my favorite band and I've heard every studio release except the debut.

Opeth have a new album coming out in a month and the last survivor wasn't even finished IIRC, so I'm sure there's interest in a new one. I'd also love to participate in a Fates Warning survivor, although I wouldn't join until the Alder era. An Anathema survivor could also be sweet, although most people on this board probably haven't heard the first few albums.

I'm down for a lot of those bands.

I did the Black Sabbath one not too long ago and the lack of participation towards the back end was painful, I would never run that one again.

Or how about Savatage?

Add a vote to this one for me.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Ayreon?  It's been a while, but it'd be hard with his most recent album not really being 'songs' as much as individual tracks.

My thought is that it's only meaningful to re-run a survivor when a new album is out - unless it's been like 3+ years since one was run.

I'd be all over Van Halen.  The challenge is getting people that know the band to frequent the P/S board.

Voted for King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, Muse and Radiohead, because, as far as I recall, we've never done these. Or at least we did them a few years ago.

You're free to participate in anything you want. If anything, it might inspire you to explore the rest of a band's discography.

Personally, for bands that I haven't heard every album, I participate on the albums that I have heard, and that's it.

Looks like some bands are already in the double digits, so if anyone wants to run those survivors, feel free to jump on them!

I'm kind of interested in running a Rush Survivor, but I don't know if it has been done fairly recently.

I did an Iron Maiden Survivor last year, and have done both Judas Priest and Kiss in the past.

I ran the Rush Survivor throughout last year, with the intention that the next one begin in September/October this year. The size of the discography means it takes a good six months to complete.

There WILL be a Rush Survivor later this year.

In fact, the last survivor took 9 months, which included a month off due to other commitments.

So yeah, it's not worth doing every 12 months - Rush Survivor 2014/15 will start in the autumn.

20 people want Opeth. Who's gonna give it to 'em? Guess it might be best to wait until the new album comes out, so people will know the songs by the time the rest of the albums are plowed through.

High demand for Pain of Salvation & Symphony X as well.

I used to run a Van Halen Survivor.  I did it for 2 or 3 years.

I don't have much interest in doing it again.  But if someone else would like to, cool.

Avenged Sevenfold, Mastodon, Metallica, Muse, Nightwish, Rush, and Tool would be my main picks.  I'd also be interested in following survivors for a few others (especially  Between the Buried and Me, Coheed and Cambria, Porcupine Tree, and Stratovarius), but my actual participation would be very limited in those cases.
Sincerely,

Voted for GENESIS, Avenged, Metallica, Neal Morse, Nightwish, and Pink Floyd.

I'd be really into GENESIS, Metallica, and Floyd.

But mostly GENESIS and Metallica.

A GENESIS one would be incredible.

GENESIS.
I don't want MP playing with DT unless they were making a drummer change. If they let MM go and bring back MP, then fine, but no guest appearance please.

Porcupine Tree has the most votes so far.

I'd like to run that after my LTE survivor, but I'm wondering whether to just include the 10 studio albums. But what would be the best way to treat all the non-album songs, like those from Recordings, Voyage 34, and Staircase Infinities?
