I hated Peep Show. Robert Webb is absolutely shite on his own and David Mitchell is better when he's either improvising on a panel show or doing his soapbox shorts on YouTube.

Plus That Mitchell & Webb Look has a ton of writers.

Yeah, the first one is often the one closest to the creator's vision, because he/she doesn't know yet what the rules are.  After that, it's too easy to fall into a "formula".  There's too much pressure to recreate whatever it was that made the first one memorable, and if you can't quantify exactly what that was, you can at least mimic the pattern and hope it works just as well.
