I thought that I'd start a thread about Borknagar and all it's offshoot bands/projects.
They are some of my favourite extreme metal bands.
I hope that there are others here who also appreciate these great bands.

Listening to the Borknagar track. Lovin' it so far, great harsh vocals and the cleans aren't bad either.

I am a big Borknagar fan.

My favorite albuns:

- The Olden Domain
- Empyricism
- The Archaic Course

But i like amost everything they´ve put out.

Yeah I really like all their albums, they are a very consistent band who don't really tour, but always deliver a great record every few years.
I know they are currently recording a new album, apparently Vintersorg (Andreas Hedlund) had a nasty accident last month.

I really loved their last album, "Winter Thrice". Listening to the singles and reading the reviews this seems to be another great album. I'm really looking forward to this. Borknagar is definitely one of my favorite bands.

Had one play through of the album, although it's going to take a fews spins to fully absorb it all, I really like it.
It has quite a few new elements that the Borknagar sound has never had, and given that 3 members left after the last album.

As it always is I sometime stumble upon new music on Spotify when an album is finished spotify starts to play random similar music and today I heard my first taste of Borknagar (a band I known about for ages but never actually listened to), the song Up North came on and I was instantly intrigued by the clean vocals and the aggressive drums. Is that actually ICS Vortex singing lead?

That's cool, I recognised his voice in the middle section but I was wondering if someone else was singing the verse and chorus. I knew he could sing but i've never heard him sing like that.

I'm pretty sure that particular song is all him. He used to be Borknagar's singer a long time ago. He's also the lead singer of Arcturus.

For True North, Lars Nedland (keyboard player in Borknagar but he is one of the main guys in Solefald) sings lead on a couple songs on that album and also does a lot of backing vocals.

Yes Vortex is the main singer now that Vortex is gone.
I do miss his growls and more aggressive songwriting on the new album.
That said Vortex does do some pretty cool growls, but not nearly enough for me.

For me it's the opposite - I generally don't care for growls, so the fewer the better. I will say that for some reason I kind of enjoy Vortex's growls, whereas most others I tolerate, at best.

This is almost me, but for some reason I just didn't listen to Winter Thrice that much; I should revisit it. Urd and The Archaic Course are great, and so is the new one.

True North is pretty great and I like Thounderous, Tidal and Voices but man no song grabbed me like when I heard Up North for the first time, what a beast of a song!

I had no idea about the new song, wasn't expecting anything so 'soon' after True North (2019)

Great song, long at almost 8 mins, a little less predictable than I was expecting.

Oh dang! Just in time for winter. When I take my dog on a walk, it's usually after 9pm and cold, I find Borknager is an excellent soundtrack.
