Not sure if this is new-thread worthy, but...

Another Ghostbusters movie is coming!!!!

Starring:

Not fucking anyone from the original cast.

Speaking of disasters of biblical proportions.

Idk... It's an all female cast.

does this mean Melissa McCarthy will be in it?

this whole thing is a bad idea, but it's guaranteed to make money so it'll happen.

I'm only subscribing to this if they remake 300 with an all female cast as well.

Actually, yeah, she's virtually a lock to be in it.

Given your age, I am not surprised.  It seems like a lot of younger people do not "get" a lot of 80s movies, and by 80s movies, I mean "80s movies."  I've seen some younger folks talk like Fast Times at Ridgemont High was the most boring movie ever, and I am always like :eek :eek :eek :eek.  Some movies just have that "you had to be there" thing going on.  I don't think Ghostbusters is the funniest film ever, like some do, but it's still pretty freaking hilarious, and seeing it in the theater back in 1984, at the age of 10, was pretty damn amazing.

I have still yet to see The Breakfast Club or Ghost Busters. I started watching Ghost Busters, but I fell asleep about 15 minutes in. It was funny as all hell, but I was really tired.

why?

nothing Melissa McCarthy has ever done has made me laugh.  the amount of love for "Bridesmaids", especially from my male friends, made me watch it.  one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

I think she's very funny, but I will say that she just gets cast as the same character over and over and over, and it can get very annoying.

I don't like when obese people get cast as "obese person" and the whole film is them being "obese person who makes fun of the fact they're obese" .

Every scene is like  - here's a situation and something funny happens because fat.

Can I ask why this even a thing? The two Ghostbusters movies were essential to my childhood and I feel like this remake/reboot has been a terrible idea from the start.

Moneymaking 101. Just look at Jurassic World last year.

I don't think making reboots or remakes (or late sequels) are a bad idea, it all comes down to the people behind it, their motivation and their execution. It's all about how you do something, and sometimes they manage to make a good movie out of it, and if they don't, you still have the original. The problem with this one, at least judging by the trailer is that it's all things you recognize combined with the lowest form of comedy ever put to film. Even though they toned down Melissa Mccarthy, they still managed to get the stereotypes with the worst being a loud black woman who is yelling for half of the trailer.

The issue I have with most reboots/remakes is that they are usually just gravytraining on the name of the original. If this new Ghostbusters moving came out, without the precedent, and the name, of the original, it would look like a generic, all-girl cast buddy movie, with Melissa McCarthy doing her shtick, Kristen Wiig doing... whatever people find entertaining about her, and a few gags that we've seen over a dozen times. Look at the first 30 seconds of the  trailer. All is it is call-backs to the original. But attach the Ghostbusters name and franchise to it, and it becomes one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and an automatic hit at the summer box office.

Quite. Which is why they're doing this instead of writing their own movie with the same cast and crew. It'll make some money on brand recognition alone.

Just like Abrams did with the new Star Trek movies :p

I think Star Trek 2009 tried to do something different with it and even wrote the script around being able to take it in a new direction. . . Which is what makes Into Darkness all the more confusing.

If Paramount hires you to do a new Star Trek movie - do you turn it down because you think there's been enough Star Trek movies already or do you accept it because you think you could do something

new with it ? I think 2009 managed that.

I agree with you on Star Trek Into Darkness. The prior movie did a great job of setting up and re-establishing the characters, that ID just felt like a step backwards into fan-service territory.

That's why I'm glad that the next Star Wars will be taken on by a different director. I think JJ Abrams' strengths are in the initial set up of the show/movie, but it's better when he then takes a step back.

On Ghostbusters, there's just no reason for this movie to be remade, other than cold hard cash. Similar with the new Point Break, Vacation, Total Recall, ... (Insert 80s / 90s movie du jour here). The originals were definitely 'of their time', and should just be left alone. :)
