King Postwhore

You get to know people from their posts and you become friends via the internet but when you meet them do they talk like they post?  Did you have any preconceptions because of their writing style?  For example, one person I met Jingle Boy, was exactly how he posts.  I could hear him talk and his thoughts on life were like all of the posts he's had on DTF and I always enjoy our talks on life.

Now Rumborak, while I he talked just like his posts he was very engaging and a whole lot of fun to talk to.  Less political and a great sense of humor.

Any of you have stories like this?
"I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'." - Bon Newhart.

senecadawg2

I nearly shat my pants when I met b_floyd and OutlawXanadu. It was kind of surreal.

When I meet Seneca he will be getting big warm hugs.

If we ever have an Aussie meet up it'll need to be inside Blob's house  ;D

Sounds like a plan.

Chino

I only remember meeting King. Exactly what I expected.

El Barto

Yeah, the various people I've met have all been pretty much as expected. Aside from the midget no surprises whatsoever.

If you didn't resemble your avatar, I have to say I'd be somewhat disappointed.

gmillerdrake

I've only met KevShmev and I share the same sentiment King did for Jingle....Kev conversed just as he posts. Speaking of which....Kev, it's about time for more wings  ;) :tup

:lol Aw, for you I'd leave the house! Maybe even as far as my backyard. There's a BBQ and a pool table out there somewhere, apparently.

So many people on the forum I'd like to meet, but Oz is just so far away from everywhere. :(

Definitely! We'll figure a day out here soon. :)

Shadow Ninja 2.0

That Shadow Ninja dude? Total jerk. Not that I expected anything different from reading the moron's posts.

lonestar

I got a good dozen plus DTFers checked off the list, and most match up with their posting styles, though I would say jingle, potpie, and Jackie do so a bit more than others.

Nick

Knowing Rumborak was German he definitely lived up to what I expected. Also, although he is not a goat, he oddly seems to live up to his classic avatar somehow.

King, I always knew was a Boston (area) guy, but for whatever reason I never before (nor after) ever really hear is accent when I read his posts. But when I've been with him it is certainly there, though not to the extent of some from that area.

Jingle.Boy's head didn't flop nearly as much as I expected, sadly.

Now I'm imagining Rumborak as "Eh, Steve"  :lol

I haven't met anyone yet... Chicago area meet-up, anyone?

ReaPsTA

I briefly saw Nick outside of a DT show from the ADTOE tour.

He was taller and more strapping than I imagined.

Dr. DTVT: Extremely insightful, polite, and an interesting conversationalist in any subject. He actually had none of the surliness/cynicism I'd occasionally noticed in his posting and wore Z Cavaricci trousers.

senecadawg: Possibly the nicest dude I've ever met. A little shy compared to what I'd expected but, if I recall, I knocked back a good four beers and was that one obnoxious headbanger at the Opeth show so I think I sometimes cause others to kinda sit back and weather my extroverted annoyance. Also, you were kinda preoccupied with having a final early that following morning as well on top of driving far out of your way to bring me home since this was before I got my current car.

TheOutlawXanadu: His posting seemed to have been more frequent back in the day than in recent years so I was a bit aloof as to what to expect. He's the kinda dude you'd be relieved to have your daughter end up marrying. Way laid back and easy to get along with.

PS: Thanks Mason, Kev, and Nelly for chauffeuring my Kennedy-livered ass around during our meetups  :heart

DebraKadabra

I really had no expectations to be honest.

El Barto is a really cool, chill dude.  Kinda reminds a bit of an older _floyd, actually. :lol

Progmetty (previously just metty - hey, where you been bud? ) is extremely nice, funny, and we had many laughs over after show eats and being able to ape on The Count of Tuscany publically.

wolfandwolfandwolf (and where the hell has he been?!) was extremely cool - just wish we'd had the chance to yak it up more.

goo-goo and Setlist Scotty "kind of" don't count since I met both of them back in the days when I was still at The Purple Place.  BUT... they're both really really nice dudes. :)

Jackie... OH Jackie. :metal   I was a little nervous at first, but once we (Wey, her, her bud Rob [I think... ?] and I) all started chatting over beers (I didn't drink as I was DD) the ice broke fast.  We should meet up at Bangers again some time if you're ever back in town, sweetie - had a blast just being chill and hanging out!

Who's on the bucket list:  RJ, Nemmie, floydie, Chad, Gary, Mister Shmevin (Yes!  Believe it or not!), bosky, Nick (DAMMIT!), Orbert, JayO & Panda, Pot Pie, Jorge, ... hell, even Zook and kotowboy. :lol :heart

the only that was much different than I expected was Adami.  It was a pleasant experience.

I want to meet all of you. :heart

That's kind of what I was alluding to at the end of my post. :lol

Zook

You're all assholes and I never want to meet any of you.

Actually, those I've met at the 2011 DT show all seemed nice, but I really didn't socialize. I'm much more outspoken online than I am in person. The power of anonymity gives me strength.

I'm happy to chauffeur you anywhere you need to be! That's you're reward for being such fantastic company! :)

And yes, I am quite introverted. Like Zook mentioned, I tend to speak up much more online than in person, where I prefer to just sit back contentedly and listen.

I'm still waiting for round 2!

hefdaddy42

Most of the ones I've met don't post here anymore.  :(

But rumby and Dr DTVT are both especially special.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

MoraWintersoul

I never met any DTFers, but if I get to have any free time whatsoever before the Maiden show in Belgrade in two weeks I just might see philmcson or Mladen. We should at least take a picture in order for us/you to see how taller/bigger they are from me, in scale :lol

Metty is well; hit him up the other day. He's busy with work, family and being a dissident.

FlyingBIZKIT

I always imagine the posters here actually looking like their avatars.  :lol

jingle.boy

I'll take these comments as a compliment. Thanks!

For the most part on those that I've met, everyone posts just like they are.  Jackie is just the kind of honest and crass (in a good way!) person you'd want to hangout and get hammered with. Trisha is the most adorable person ever.  Joe is way too much fun, and gets even more fun with each beer - man did we laugh last meetup. RJ... probably the wisest and most grounded guy I know. Dark_Lord... I'd let him take me hostage!

Nick and Bosk... Not nearly as authoritarian as they can be here - the nature of being a mod I guess.

I've loved every DTF meetup I've had, and there are still quite a few to knock off on my bucket list.

Think of the epic conversation we could have about 80s music! :metal

Nekov

I've only met Ariich in person and I expected him to be more correct and uptight because of how well constructed all his posts are and maybe cause his british  :P but he turned out to be a really cool and loose guy.
And he is as sexy as his pictures show :eyebrows:

Dr. DTVT

I've met a lot of people, and I'm going to have to leave off the ones I met at pre-show bars in Worcester, MA and NYC because I can't hear for shit in loud places and I probably just came off as some weird guy because I couldn't hear a thing said.

Nick - as jingle said, not as authoritarian as he been forced to be here in the past.  Dude let me stay the night at his place despite not really ever meeting me before (again, can't count NYC preshow).  Great guy, if I end up somewhere up north I'm sure there will be more concerts in the future.

ZeppelinDT - Pretty much like he is on here, real down to Earth dude, not the type you'd peg as an Ivy League graduate holding a law degree.  We hung out with the bass player of The Dear Hunter before a show on what was one of the shittiest weeks in my life leading up to the concert, so I was probably somewhat of a space cadet.

HefDaddy - Pretty much as he is on here.  Extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and funny.  I met him on his birthday and I gave him a card from DTF with a bunch of our signatures on it, and the look of joy on his face when he opened it was priceless, I really wish I could have shared that with everyone.

black_floyd - One of the fastest witted people I've ever met.  He's just as funny in person as he is here, and he is the type of person other people just sort of gravitate to.  We were at a bar and after a conversation with some guys they bought us a drink.  We didn't ask them to, they just wanted to.  Underneath that image you might have of him with his long hair and epic beer holding pictures is an intelligent, well-mannered, swell dude.  We have a ton of shit in common too.

lonestar - He was working when I met him, and I was only in town for a conference so a proper meetup was not in the cards.  I was also the first DTF'er he met so the thought I might be the type of internet weirdo that you observe from a distance might have been in his head.  Ever since I broke his DTF cherry, he's been the friendly slut here so next time I'm in town hopefully a more proper date will be in order.

I feel like I've missed several people.  I'll be less than an hour from Tampa and Orlando in about a month so if any of you go to Disney World you know what do to.  dark_castle is going to be on this list soon I think.
