Prog/Metal Vocal Showdown #28: Kennedy vs Kakko
« on: August 21, 2014, 07:04:21 AM »
Just a few more to go before we wrap this up.  Both Alter Bridge and Sonata Arctica get enough love around here to have these two, though I don't know enough about either to make an informed decision.  I've listened to a few songs from both, and enjoyed them enough, but never took the leap to get to know them better.

So, who's the more preferred DTF?

I don't care that much for either Alter Bridge or Sonata Arctica, but I prefer Kakko as a vocalist.

This.

Tony has a pretty impressive range despite being a baritone, although some old songs have to be transposed nowadays. I've seen Sonata Arctica live four times and he has always delivered, and his banter can be hilarious sometimes. :lol

I really like both, but I went with Myles in the end - though I might go with Tony tomorrow, it's very close.

Both very good singers. I'm not a big fan of that Alternative metal voice so Kakko gets my vote. I do like some of the new Alter Bridge, even risked a track in Chad's roulette a few months ago. More a stylistic choice than skill level for me here.

And it worked... liked the tune plenty.  Still have yet to explore more though.

Interesting matchup.  Both are pretty amazing, but Kakko was one of the guys that introduced me to power metal many years ago so I have to go with him.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Hmm...i dunno guys, this is a tough choice for me  :P

Myles is one of my favorite vocalists of all time. I haven't listened to a lot of Sonata Artica, but the material I did hear I did enjoy. I love bluesy and soulful rock singers, and it is clear how he was influenced by blues, rock, jazz, and soul. He has a truly amazing voice, brilliant range (spanning over 4 octaves), great tone and is an amazing musician. He is just unreal.

Jingle., let me know if you want to dig into his catalogue of music and i'll push some stuff your way. He's done a lot of interesting things in his career
