I remember playing a demo of that Banjo Kazooie game and not liking it. The first two games blow it clear out of the water imo.

MW2 is great, can't go wrong there.

To be fair, its nothing like the first two games besides the characters.  Im guessing I am the only one who actually took the time to build some sick vehicles, but that's all that mattered as long as I enjoyed the heck out of it.

MW2 will always have a special place in me heart for all the fun multiplayer games I had with friends.  It was the last great party game I recks.

I haven't played either of those games. I've always wanted to try a Banjo game, everyone raves about them.

On a tangent, I heard about a spiritual successor on Kickstarter, but I am not sure if it was funded. Something like Yuka-Lalee.

It's still going, and it's at about 1.8 million pounds, so yeah, it managed to get funded just fine. :lol I'm excited to play that one.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Never heard of Yooka-Laylee before but now I am excite. A Hat in Time is another platformer in similar style currently being developed, which I've been looking forward to for a while.

NFL Blitz
N64

I'm not sure if I saw this come up on anyone elses list, but this game was a big part of my childhood and is still played.  I guess you could say its the NFL version of NBA Jam.  A twisted version of the sport where there are less players on the field and less rules.  It's so easy to pick up and be able to play that makes it so fun.  The losing team always gets the "breaks" like turnovers to make the games competitive.  When we play now, it's usually a 63-56 overtime type of game which always makes it exciting.  I used to play a lot in college with my roommate, our goal was to shut out the computer on the hardest difficulty... and we eventually did.  We won something like 63-0 and afterwards we stopped playing for like 5 years lol

Goldeneye
N64

Well this is pretty much a standard.  The first multiplayer shooter game I ever played.  The single player was a lot of fun too, but it was the 4 player multiplayer that made this game stand out.  After it was first released, a friend had a birthday party sleep over with like 10 kids and we stayed up all night rotating playing the death matches.  It was such a rush at the time to play like that.  It really turned gaming around for me and made me interested in FPS games.

I did not get Goldeneye's appeal until after N64's cycle. Mind you, Quake2 came out not long after, and I was already in the midst of playing Quake1 online. So sorry to Goldeneye, but it did not resonate at all because A) Q2 looked much better of course, B) Keyboard & mouse >>> controller, and C) Network play.

That stated, and I know I mentioned it earlier in this thread; Goldeneye was ground-breaking for playing FPS's on a console. I also think the control stick was the first of it's kind, and allowed for easier free look than a 4 position pad. And hearing, and seeing everyone (including my friends in that time period) play it, and speak fondly of it, I understood it more. It also I think paved the way for more realistic FPS games. I could be wrong, but many FPSs of the time were more sci-fi, whereas Goldeneye had things more grounded in reality setting wise. I can only think of Wolfenstein being set in a more realistic environment.

And what is overlooked at times is the single player. It was done extremely well, and followed the movie the best it could I felt. The scenes from the movie were all there, and the amount of weapons was very cool.

Sonic 2
Sega

This was a classic childhood game.  I got a Sega at a young age, around the time when it was first released and it came with the original Sonic game which I very much loved, but it was the 2nd game that really blew me away and had the replay value.  The speed of the game is one characteristic that was really fun, how you can spin and wind up and then boom fly through a level and launch off ramps into the sky.  It was so fun to find the secret spots and just see where you end up.  The level designs were fantastic and had such distinct differences as you go through each zone.  Another huge stand out were the boss fights.  Fighting off the different robots of Dr Robotnik was so cool as a kid and they were usually fun to play as well.  The casino zone and the airplane zone at the end were two of my favorites.  Just so much fun as a kid.  I bought the remasters for xbox 360 when they came out and had some fun with them.

Team Fortress 2
PC/Xbox 360

It's possible I put more hours into this game than any other.  I already listed Counterstrike on my list and this game has the same type of feel, but a cartoonish version.  I started playing this game on the PC back when I started playing counterstrike.  At that time, I was not into this one as much.  I played it time to time and enjoyed it, but I was really into CS and hence this game was on the back burner most of the time.  It wasn't until the Orange Box for Xbox 360 came out that I found new love for this game.  I spent countless hours after work coming home and just having a blast.  The cartoonish characters and thier specific classes gave this game its own feel and seperated it from other shooters.  I think getting good at it also really helped with my enjoyment.  My "best" stats on the 360 were pretty insane IMO.  My favorite class was the engineer, I just loved building and defending my sentries in the defensive mode or sometimes slowly moving them up towards the other base or flag in a more offensive mode depending on the flow of the game.  THis game is so good and so much fun that I still play it time to time.  The difference of the classes and the maps lead to a really good balance to the game.  I should also add that the blood and gore is also awesome  :metal

I loved Sonic 2, one of the first games I remember playing!

As for Team Fortress, I spent so many hours playing the first one but I never played the second. I always think to myself that I'll play later. I should try it sometime soon I guess.

Jesus, I have a problem with sticking to a game. I think it's because my steam library is too large, I have well over 200 games but most I've played less than 4 hours. Dota 2 and Smite being the exception.

A game like TF is easy to clock up hours over time because its so simple to just hop into a game and enjoy it, doesn't require a lot of skill to have fun either. I guess that's why I like FPS games in general. I often don't have hours to spend at a time to play more detailed and sophisticated games. I like to be able to just be a few clicks away from a fast paced multiplayer game that doesn't require me to spend much time playing to feel satisfied.

and, unlike most CoD/other hyperpopular FPSs I see, TF2 doesn't get boring after half an hour.

True as well, the game has lasted for years without a new one and without people bitching for a new one.

There's no need for a new one. Valve just updates it with new content. Eventually, it might be ported to Source 2, and updated further.

Half Life 2
PC/Xbox 360

I had first played the original half life as a young kid.  To me, it was a wayyy better DOOM type of game.  Better graphics, cool storyline, and just a fun game overall.  It wasn't until many years later when the Orange Box was released for the Xbox 360 that I came back to the Half Life series (which by then was the same as it is now ).  This game blew my mind.  The world looked amazing, the storyline was good, and the levels were well designed.  The game was a first person shooter, but included many elements of puzzles to get to the next area on a map.  The gravity gun was a huge element to what made this game so much fun as well.  It felt so innovating and made great use of the game's engine and physics (which played a large role in the puzzles).  The expansion packs were great too that added more elements to the game play and visuals as well as story.

Red Alert 2
PC

This was my first RTS game I ever played.  I'll be honest, I'm terrible at these types of games, always have been and likely always will be, but that doesn't mean I can't or don't enjoy them.  I really loved the idea of building my own base and forming a defense and eventually an attack team.  Maybe that's why I am bad, I always followed the same pattern, but that was honestly the way I liked to play.  I loved taking my time (yea another big negative) and getting to the point where I could build the biggest and baddest tank/plane/bomb to take out the enemy and do it in such a large mass that one attack would destroy the enemy.  The single player was a lot of fun, each level gaining more access to structures to build more units and complete the objective.  As a kid though, I always loved the skirmish mode so I could build my army the way I wanted and take my time.  This was also the first game I modded.  There were tools to create your own units and I had so much fun with that.  I spent a lot of time just playing around with this as a kid.

I am a terrible person for owning HL2, and never really playing it. I had sound issues, and I lost interest at that time afterwards in FPSs and PC gaming.

RA2, on the other hand I played the heck out of. The amount of time I sunk into that game rivals only SC1 & SC2 for RTS. I only like one component of RA1 over RA2- the cruisers/Battleships. They could decimate a coast and part of a base from the water, and be safe without if no subs were available.

While I cannot say RA2 has the crazy balancing of SC that requires new techniques, I like the mirroring of the Allies and Soviets with some exceptions. And I also loved the theme/setting of RA over SC, and any other RTS actually. I'm partial to WW2 stuff, so it fit right at home.

And totally, just messing around with different units was fun. I was more inclined to do Allies, so trying to take out a base with Tanyas, Prisms tanks, or those Chrono trooper guys that disappeared buildings was great. And when the enemy built a nuke or weather plant, using those troops quickly to disappear the threat. Or trying to capture the enemies tech via an engineer.

I didn't mind the Yuri's Revenge expansion pack, but I feel Yuri was too weak vs. the other two. And the loss of mind control tech for the Soviets was a big one.

I played a shit-ton of Sonic 2 in University.  I always loved being Tails.  Loved those challenge zones that were just about collecting all the rings.  And damn, some of those boss battles were tough!

Resident Evil
Playstation

My first dip into the action horror type of game (not sure of the history, but maybe this is one of the first of that genre?).  The horror was what really hooked me into this game initially.  As a little kid, when those dogs jumped through the windows early in the game, I was so scared!  From that moment I was hooked.  The puzzles were really tough I recall as a kid.  I have always wanted to go back and play through again to see if I could complete the game without a guide, but when I was young, I really needed the guide to figure everything out.  But the puzzles were a big joy in the game though, they seemed clever and fit into the storyline.  The storyline was also really cool (good enough to make movies apparently, or close enough).  The survival part of the game made it really challenging as well, it was the first game I played that had some RPG elements in it in that you had limited supplies and limited weight to carry so you had to plan things out.  I really liked the 2nd RE game as well, but the first one gets my vote for its originality and my personal memories of it.

WWF No Mercy
N64

I was a huge wrestling fan as a teenager.  I played pretty much every wrestling video game that came out during the 90s and 2000s.  This one was my favorite of them all.  The THQ N64 WWF games were the best.  The earlier WCW games were great and they just expanded and upgraded them every year or so until it climaxed with No Mercy.  This game had tons of characters, tons of stages, a bunch of fun single player storylines, an awesome create a character, and lots of new game modes.  I also used to have a game genie that could really hack this game and make for some really cool "stipulations" for matches.  Also online forums had CAWs set up for wrestlers who werent in the game, so it was very easy to essentially have anyone you wanted as a wrestler if you took the time.  I was obsessed with creating my own pay per view events and pretending to have my own wrestling league in my make believe world.  I should also add that the royal rumble is super fun to play.  In fact, if I have 3 of my buddies over, we will still fire up a royal rumble for fun.

I think the REmake is better in absolutely every sense. I might even get the last HD remaster, just for the sake of winning it for the 5th time or so.
