Just bought the blu ray this week-end, and this is a FUCKIN' AWESOME SHOW!! :metal

Awesome performance from the band, awesome light-show, awesome quality picture and sound, awesome crowd, awesome orchestra and choird!!

This blu ray could top the list of all they have already released!!

There's only ONE thing wrong about this release : no real bonus material.
And why the hell didn't they put the so funny "interlude" film ? :corn

Anyway, I think that it's the best DT live video release since "Score", and in fact, "Breaking the fourth wall" is even better in my opinion.

Long live DT the best band on earth, in the universe and beyond. :yarr

(ps : the Boston Opera House is really a BEAUTIFUL theater!! :tup)

It's probably to do with rights, since it's made up of other people's footage.

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Blob, do you get any financial profit from the DVD? I mean with your animations. I don't know how these things work :P

This DVD is fucking amazing.

Labrie just crushes.  His vocals match Score, actually I think they are better, much better.

The downside is the lack of bonus material and the need for 2 DVD's which is bullshit.

That is actually a decent reason.  It was annoying as the price was way more expensive than just a normal DVD for some reason.

Does anyone have any idea the reasoning behind the 2 DVD's?

Every time a new Dream Theater DVD comes out, people wonder if LaBrie will touch or surpass his performance on Score. Personally, I don't think it will ever happen, and it doesn't have to - LaBrie is awesome anyway. I'll be getting this very soon.  :metal

I'll take him here over Score i think.  I'd probably need to watch both back to back though to properly decide.

I know this may have been discussed earlier, but does anyone have any idea how much of james' vocals were touched up or redone?

I believe it has a PCM stereo track, which is uncompressed, which means it has better quality audio, but on the downside, it takes up more storage space. Score also had PCM stereo, and as a result the video quality suffered for fitting a nearly 3 hour concert on one disc. BFTW would likely have similarly suffered had they fit it all on one disc.
So it was done for the sake of maintaining both video and audio quality, with the compromise of splitting the show over two discs.

Saw them live once again last night, in Rio. Horrible acoustics aside, they nailed it once again!!! LaBrie did a note-perfect show, even better than the shows I saw earlier this year. Itīs a shame that they changed the venue, and this one didnīt do the bandīs sound justice. I could barely hear LaBrie on the first song, and Jordan and Myung were a huge mass of sound for the best part of the concert.

Another great James snippet was "ok, weīre now looking forward, īcause thereīs no looking back...so this one is on the back...s of angels".  :loser:

I don't mind having 2 DVDs unless I wanna watch the entire thing. Most of the time I just wanna watch a few songs worth and pick a DVD.

It sucks when you get movies on 2 discs though.

Yea I really hated how the Audio tracks took away from the picture quality of Score and why I really want that on blu-ray.  It would make the whole concert better and its the main reason (second being setlist) why Score is not in my top three DT DVDs.

Another thing I noticed yesterday is that they had an extended jam at the beginning of Trial of Tears which is not on the Blu-Ray version - I didnīt notice them doing that in the shows earlier this year. It was not just Petrucci doing the Xanadu thing, all four of them were jamming a cool Marillion-esque theme.

Mangini made me dig the song. Before this release, The Shattered Fortress was only meh in my book but once I watched him play the shit out of the tune, it grew immensely.

I don't have the DVD available right now to cross-check, but they completely pulled JLB's talking at the end of TSF, didn't they? That's the one I was referring to when I said it was somewhat ... "effeminate".

I don't know if it is the superior drum sound, but Mangini sounds much more energetic here than he did in Luna Park.

Much more.

Also I think it works really well because it's kinda like a medley of the whole suite. That maybe in the record is a let down, but live it's enjoyable IMO.

I think on Score James was being too "careful".  They were still only two years removed from their discussion over the lack of quality performances so I think he just tried real hard to hit the notes.  With that said, I think it sacrificed alot of the emotion in his voice.

With BTFW, it is the best of both worlds.  He sounds fucking amazing but he isn't afraid to improv a little bit and he also isn't concerned with making all of the notes exactly like they are on the album  a lot of room for his character to come through on his performance.  For that, BTFW is a perfect JLB performance.

How on earth is that an answer to wolfking's question? :lol

To answer the original question, his voice broke during the high part in IT, so they definitely dubbed that part. Also, he's off-pitch in sections on the bootleg, they pitch-shifted those parts.

Thanks rumbo.  Yeah, the end of IT was made me ask the question.  There is one line that you can clearly tell is overdubbed.  I couldn't really see any other significant instances though.

A very good reason for you to pass to BR!! :tup

To answer the original question, his voice broke during the high part in IT, so they definitely dubbed that part. Also, he's off-pitch in sections on the bootleg, they pitch-shifted those parts.

Holy shit, I had the full intention of answering that and got the quotes fucked up and left one out :lol

But yeah, I was going to say that general consensus is that James's vocals were touched relatively minorly.  Some say pitch correction was used in a few places and others cant tell the difference (me being one of them)

So anyway, my original comment was supposed to be in response to whether James had a better performance on Score or BTFW
