Scarface. There is nothing remotely likeable about Tony Montana or pretty much anyone in that movie. Just a big long waste of time.

THANK YOU! The way some people make a hero out this character is profoundly sad to me.

I didn't say it was bad, I said it couldn't possibly be as good as the hype.  And to me it wasn't.  :lol

Thank you for saying it. I enjoyed the show and some of the characters , but it wasn't anything ground breaking.

And at least the second half of Season 5, minus the finale, was very subpar IMO. Yet the percentage of ratings of it is at like 99% or something.

A television show doesn't have to be ground-breaking to be great.

I was aware that Breaking Bad's hype was off the charts, yet when I watched all of it for the first time last summer and early fall, it still surpassed my expectations.  Best show I've ever seen, and it ain't close (and considering how much I worship The Sopranos, that is really saying something).  But, to each his own. :coolio

True. I feel like with the hype, I expected it to be something mind blowing and new. I did throughly enjoyed the show, just thought the NeoNazis were extremely weak as a group, with had no great motivation for anything. I know nothing could top Gus, but I was just very let down with how they were bad because they were bad. Yet the hype I read while I waited for the second half to be released was out of the planet. And outside of the finale being great, I feel it could have basically ended after the first half of season 5.

Well, at the risk of giving spoilers for those who still want to watch Breaking Bad (STOP READING HERE IF YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE!)...

..ending it with Hank on the toilet finding out about Walt would have been rather anti-climatic.

I agree that Jack and his gang were weak as a group, but not everyone in the drug trade like that is gonna be as smart as Gus or Walt.  It's very realistic that a bunch of scumbags with no redeeming qualities whatsoever would be involved in the meth business, so them being the way they were was realistic in that sense.  They were just a bunch of dirtball criminals who just wanted money and didn't care what they had to do or who they had to kill to get it.

Mastodon's song "Pendulous Skin". I saw the track listing and thought that I was in for a 22-minute epic. I was very let down.

When people start raving about this movie talking about a self-made man, etc., I always ask if they watched until the end.  Those folks entirely miss the point of the movie.

Sex for the most part. Way over hyped - even good sex. A lot of times more trouble than it's worth.

The Hangover movie franchise. WOW these are bad movies.

Friends - the whole series. Whups....America, you fell for bad tv hype, eveyone jumped on.

Front load washing machines. Biggest rip off pulled by the apppliance industry. I havent had clean laundry in about 4 years
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Happy Lives to you all.

Sounds like you are doing it wrong. :P :lol

I wouldn't go that far, but they are definitely way overrated.  While the first one was funny, it's not all-time great funny by any stretch of the imagination, and I've had no urge to watch it a second time, which is telling since truly great comedies I can watch over and over and over...  The second one was pretty dreadful, and so bad that I won't even waste my time with the third.

Neat to hear people's reactions to the various famous things and how they've disappointed when visited first hand.

Canada is a vast country with many natural wonders...I've been to Lake Louise (even paddled around in it) The day I was there the water looked like torquoise milk..my paddle dissappeard in it....there were climbers on the glacier at the end - the view and the hotel were spectacular. Unless you can afford the stay I'd make it one stop...not "the stop".

I've also seen a place called Cathedral Grove on Victoria Island. I think  the trees there are similar in size to your American Giant Red Woods. Drive a car through them. They were worth the drive.

Down town Toronto is pretty cool...take the bus tour. I am an "anti toronto" guy but the tour opened me up to the amazing history of the town....and the Crack Tree that Rob Ford now owns.

I love RUSH but the one time I saw them ranks as the second worst concert i've ever seen.
I've seen Maiden twice and the second time they were good but played only b-sides and I didn't know much of them...

Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Happy Lives to you all.

Front load washing machines. Biggest rip off pulled by the apppliance industry. I havent had clean laundry in about 4 years

Incorrect. All a washing machine does is agitate the garments in the water (or solvent) and chemicals. Front load washers are proven, through many studies, to provide superior agitation with less water and less chemicals, thus, saving you money and waste water to your city. They also extract at much higher g-forces saving you expensive drying costs.  Sloshing your garments around in a big tub full of barely charged water is the most inefficient and environmentally wasteful method known to cleaning. Plus it is not as effective. For this reason you will never see professional or industrial cleaning systems that aren't front loaded.

If your clothing isn't getting clean you aren't using proper detergent for the hardness of your water. It's simply a pH thing.

It's also proven that repairs for the front loads cost waaaaay too much.  Every repair guy has told me to stay away from those models.

Granted that most modern front-load washers are full of (mostly) unnecessary technology that can be expensive to replace...especially for untrained mechanics with little or no experience with electronics. As a general rule, the more simple the controls, the more reliable the machine will be in the long run.

Still, there's no question that front-loading machines clean better.  That's simple physics.  They may cost more, but if they do the job better, then it becomes a cost/benefit analysis.

Regarding washing machines: An article I read yesterday

Could be the reduction in durability coinciding with the change from top to front loading machines.

Just like that, when she's conspicuously looking inside the washing machine.

Anyway, most recently I was disappointed that I did not wake up as an almighty alien god, playing with the Earth and other planets like marbles ala the aliens at the end of Men In Black.

The classic horror movies like Friday the 13th, etc.  I saw them as an adult one Halloween with some friends, and I was like "this isn't scary".

I suppose it depends on the movie.  Friday the 13th never really scared me that much.  I always thought it was overhyped rubbish.    For some reason The Exorcist never scared me either, I just thought it was gross.   "Let's make an 8 year old look ugly, swear alot and throw vomit all over the place."   Not scary.    All of the 80's "slasher film" knock off's were pretty stupid as well.   Prom Night, My Bloody Valentine, Happy Birthday To Me....all stupid.

But there are two originals that still scare the living crap out of me to this day.   The first Halloween, and the first Nightmare on Elm Street.    I haven't watched them in years, but I do know that even after multiple viewings, they absolutely had me hiding under the covers for days afterwards.

I loved Freddy when I was a teen, but more so for his humor and voice, not to be scared.

Sex, definitely, although I'll be looking forward to changing that :lol and the whole dating in your teens/early college years is way overrated and I'll strongly advise my children to just stay the hell out of it if I ever have them. You get hurt a lot before you're emotionally mature enough to deal with it and it can be a mess. Sure, you can get a lot of experience, but since every person is different, the only experience you need to date is general experience in dealing with people, plus a little common sense. I'd definitely just erase ever liking or dating any dude before my current boyfriend, and maybe in a year or so I'll be saying that about the current boyfriend too :lol

Any movie that's ever been hyped for me.

Early Metallica albums.

70's prog rock in general. I appreciate the formative influence it had on some of my favorite music and the innovation, but it doesn't appeal to my emotions or my lifestyle right now, seeing how I'm no longer a self-proclaimed "huge nerd" and how I've grown accustomed to the more modern approach and production.

Avatar definitely disappointed me...I fell asleep 30 minutes into the movie.

I've found that "shaky cam" movies are usually disappointing. The Jason Bourne movies come to mind even though I like the story and acting. Interestingly, I thought Cloverfield was good tho.

Because my last post wasn't dangerous enough-I watched an episode of Attack On Titan and found it so ludicrously over the top and obvious that I have no need to watch another. Breaking Bad was a case of nothing being able to match the expectations caused by the hype. Attack On Titan I just found to be awful.

Iron maiden - Number of the Beast

Sounded like a demo. And I'm sorry but Nicko Mcbrain is a dreadful drummer.

I loved Cloverfield and still love sex though. Sex is great if you're doin it right.

I've heard people say that sex was disappointing when they finally got to do it, and all I can think of is that it's one of those things that is definitely better when you know what you're doing and what to expect, and obviously that will not be the case the first time.  Also, it helps a lot if your partner knows what they're doing, which may not be the case.

To those people, I say:  Cheer up!  It gets better.  Most things are more fun when you know what you're doing and aren't worried about getting caught, catching a disease, disappointing someone, getting pregnant, getting someone else pregnant, getting cold because you're outside somewhere with no clothes on...  Seriously the list is endless, and it's so much better when you can relax and enjoy it and not have to worry.

Then when you get a lot older, things get worse again.  But you don't have to worry about that for a while.

Good thing he started his dreadful drumming on the next album then. And if you think NotB sounds like a demo, you never heard a demo from 1982  :rollin

Oh also, the most overrated movie I've ever seen is Fight Club.  I see the merits but I did not enjoy it.
