I'll be really surprised if anyone is really familiar with these guys….
#10 Black Lab - Your Body Above Me
October 21, 1997 I worked for 10 years on Oil Tankers as a Merchant Marine in the 90's before transferring shoreside to one of our refineries. While on the ships a gal I sailed with let me borrow a copy of this CD. I had never heard of them, but she knew kinda what I was into at the time. Bands like Live, Dishwalla, Bush, etc... At first listen I really enjoyed it. After weeks of listening, I couldn't stop. It was one of those albums that was the perfect storm of music, vocals, writing and style for me. This..."style" or sub-genre really was a small chapter in my musical life. Yet, it left a huge impact and has withstood the test of time. If you've never heard this album.. throw on some headphones and crank up the bass. The bass lines are just so solid! As is all the musicianship on this album. I rate albums sometimes with "Flow" in mind. The flow of this album works so well for me. Is it the most musically complex album? Not even close. But sometimes it's just about the joy a song or album brings. The band broke up in '99. I heard they reformed a year or so later and did another album. I never looked into that album...but maybe the time is now. I believe that Geffen records really dropped the ball, or missed the boat on this band.
