I'm not a huge fan of these 5 DT albums (Octavarium, Systematic Chaos, Black Clouds & Silver Linings and, Dramatic Turn of Events & Dream Theater) and i think i'm not the only one here, so....let's try a "game"...if you could choose some tracks to create just ONE perfect album, which would you choose?

that's my "perfect" tracklist:

1 Octavarium (maybe with shorter intro)
2 The Looking Glass
3 The Best of Times
4 The Dark Eternal Night
5 Breaking All Illusions
6 Along for the Ride
7 The Ministry of Lost Souls (maybe a bit shorter than the actual lenght)

about 70 minutes of a wonderful record 

now it's your turn! (this could be also made for albums like SFAM, 6DOIT & TOT....which someone here almost dislike, as i read in various topics)

This is extraordinarily hard for me, because I actually really love those albums, especially Octavarium and Black Clouds & Silver Linings. I have six songs from those albums in my top 10: The Bigger Picture, Far From Heaven, A Nightmare to Remember, The Count of Tuscany, Octavarium and Breaking All Illusions. And those all won't fit on one disc. My single disc best of then would be something like:

1. A Nightmare to Remember (16:10)
2. The Count of Tuscany (19:16)
3. Far From Heaven (3:56)
4. Breaking All Illusions (12:26)
5. Octavarium (24:00)

Total: 75:48

If you'll indulge me for a minute to make a double album, I can really have fun with this...

Thank you I have quite the same problem, 'cause i really like DT12, but i know that many people in this forum doesn't, so i tried to make this topic "opened" for almost everyone by putting also that record in, altought it made things more difficult for me

in my "perfect" one, i tried to make just 1 cd, and i hat to "cut" Panic Attack, The Bigger Picture and maybe Outcry...but i think i've made the "right choice"...and, as far as i can see, we agree on some songs

I'd have trouble even narrowing down a 8V/SC/BCASL compilation to under 2 hours, and I'm fine with those albums, so I'll just leave those as is, and come up with a single disc ADTOE/DT12.

But I could easily make a disc out of the middle three...   Probably go something like this.

That was designed more for practicality and to make it flow properly, but I do love all those songs. If I made a one disc album of my favorites from the list without a thought about how it'd flow it'd be 4 songs to fit the 80 min time slot and wouldn't make any sense (BitS, IT, 8VM and TCoT)

It's 75 minutes long, which is a bit long but there's a ANTR and 8VM in there, so nothing less could be expected. It still is 7 songs long, which is fairly good.
