Setlists from bands on the day you were born
« on: April 11, 2014, 01:33:56 AM »
So recently, I went through a massive hunt through setlists on the day I was born (October 28th, 1994) to see what bands played on my birthday and what they played, so I figured it be fun for you guys to do it too! https://www.setlist.fm/ is your friend here, and two of my favorite bands played on my birthday.

Dream Theater
Pull Me Under
6:00
Take the Time
Caught in a Web
(with drum solo)
Lifting Shadows Off a Dream
The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun
The Mirror
Lie
Another Day
Erotomania
Voices
The Silent Man
Encore:
Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper
Eve

What a setlist, huh? A Mind Beside Itself, Eve, TOWHTSTS, Take The Time.. Pretty awesome setlist. But DT weren't the only band to play on the day of my birth!

Pink Floyd
Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V)
Learning to Fly
High Hopes
Take It Back
Poles Apart
Sorrow
Keep Talking
Another Brick in the Wall Part 2
One of These Days
Speak to Me
Breathe
On the Run
Time
Breathe (Reprise)
The Great Gig in the Sky
Money
Us and Them
Any Colour You Like
Brain Damage
Eclipse
Encore:
Comfortably Numb
Wish You Were Here
Run Like Hell

Equally good setlist, maybe some switching out (Did they really feel the need to play all of Dark Side of the Moon this tour..?) but it's an awesome setlist. So, guys, tell me, post the setlists, what bands played on the day of your birth and do you like the setlist?
i don't even like dt but i had keyboard and an ipad so what the fuck
Jordan is actually DT's tax advisor. He just happens to do their taxes on stage, that's why he has that iPad there.

The only artist that I like that played on my birthday (3-1-84) is Yes:
Cinema
Leave It
Our Song
Yours Is No Disgrace
Hold On
Perpetual Change
It Can Happen
I've Seen All Good People
Keyboard Solo
Solly's Beard
Changes
And You and I
Soon
Make It Easy
Owner of a Lonely Heart
Long Distance Runaround
Whitefish / Amazing Grace
City of Love
Hearts
Encore:
Starship Trooper
Roundabout

An average 90125 tour set. Not their best tour as far as setlists go but it's got some good songs.

Fuck me in the eye with a dick of solid rust! I literally haven't even thought of Starship Trooper in well over a year despite it being my second favorite Yes song. God I'm an idiot.

Don't wanna be a party pooper, but Eve was only used as an outro tape on the Awake tour...

Anyway, this is what Anathema played on November 23, 1994:

Eternal Rise of the Sun
Sweet Tears
We, the Gods
Lovelorn Rhapsody
Mine Is Yours to Drown In (Ours Is the New Tribe)
Sleepless
Welcome to Hell (Venom cover)
Under a Veil (of Black Lace)
...and I Lust
666

Type O Negative played a gig on the same day, but the setlist isn't available.

Did they really feel the need to play all of Dark Side of the Moon this tour..?

Yes.

It was the Division Bell tour and IIRC wasn't it some sort of anniversary of DSOTM? Plus they hadn't played it in it's entirety for a long time. Since it was pretty ground breaking and arguably their biggest album (certainly biggest selling) then I can see why they did it. Plus the visual element for it was stunning. The performance at Earls court was released as the "Pulse" live album and I'd recommend it for even the most casual Pink Floyd fan.

(Black Sabbath cover)
Man on the Silver Mountain
(Rainbow cover)
All the Fools Sailed Away
Rock 'n' Roll Children
Night People
Rainbow in the Dark
Encore:
We Rock
Don't Talk to Strangers

That would have rocked so much!

Epic Pink Floyd show that night too:

Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V)
Signs of Life
Learning to Fly
Yet Another Movie
Round and Around
A New Machine (Part 1)
Terminal Frost
A New Machine (Part 2)
Sorrow
The Dogs of War

The only ones of interest to me on my birthday in 1984 were Queen and Iron Maiden:

Queen

1. Machines (Or 'Back to Humans')
2. Tear It Up
3. Tie Your Mother Down
4. Under Pressure
5. Somebody to Love
6. Killer Queen
7. Seven Seas of Rhye
8. Keep Yourself Alive
9. Liar
10. It's a Hard Life
11. Staying Power
12. Dragon Attack
13. Now I'm Here
14. Is This the World We Created...?
15. Love of My Life
16. Stone Cold Crazy
17. Great King Rat
18. Keyboard Solo
19. Guitar Solo
20. Brighton Rock (Outro)
21. Hammer to Fall
22. Another One Bites the Dust
23. Crazy Little Thing Called Love
24. Bohemian Rhapsody
25. Radio Ga Ga

Encore:
26. I Want to Break Free
27. Sheer Heart Attack
28. We Will Rock You
29. We Are the Champions
30. God Save the Queen (Thomas Augustine Arne cover)

Iron Maiden

1. Aces High
2. 2 Minutes to Midnight
3. The Trooper
4. Revelations
5. Flight of Icarus
6. Rime of the Ancient Mariner
7. Losfer Words (Big 'Orra)
8. Powerslave
9. The Number of the Beast
10. Hallowed Be Thy Name
11. 22 Acacia Avenue
12. Iron Maiden

Encore:
13. Run to the Hills
14. Running Free
15. Sanctuary

The Maiden set is pretty good, standard for the time I suppose! The Queen one is interesting though, real mix of newer (at the time) songs and really old ones.

Ariich is a freak, or somehow has more hours in the day than everyone else.

While Setlist.fm lists two concerts on that day, yes, trying to find setlists for 1966 is an exercise in futility. Ya damn whippersnappers!

Wow, quite a few interesting ones on my birthday, including:  Genesis, Yes, Grateful Dead, Evlis, Iron Butterfly, and Pink Floyd.  The only one I could find a set list for is Floyd at Olympen, Lund, Sweden:

01. Astronomy Domine
02. Careful With That Axe Eugene
03. Cymbaline
04. A Saucerful Of Secrets
05. Embryo
06. Interstellar Overdrive
07. Set Controls For The Heart Of The Sun
08. Atom Heart Mother

Audio is even available here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAFbGIcmR50  (a bit painful to listen to, since the tape it was recorded on obviously wasn't cared for well, which makes everything sound out of tune, but still cool that it even exists)

Same here Bosk.  A dozen or so listed, but this was the only decent one with an actual setlist.

I've Seen All Good People
Mood for a Day
Clap
Heart of the Sunrise
Keyboard Solo
Long Distance Runaround

Perpetual Change
Encore:

Although, I would've loved to have known what was played by Rush at Abbey Road Club, Toronto, ON, Canada in November of 1971.

(Igor Stravinsky song)
Yours Is No Disgrace
Rhythm of Love
Shock to the System
Heart of the Sunrise
Clap
Mood for a Day
Make It Easy
Owner of a Lonely Heart

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

So recently, I went through a massive hunt through setlists on the day I was born (October 28th, 1994) to see what bands played on my birthday and what they played, so I figured it be fun for you guys to do it too! https://www.setlist.fm/ is your friend here, and two of my favorite bands played on my birthday.

Dream Theater
Pull Me Under
6:00
Take the Time
Caught in a Web
(with drum solo)
Lifting Shadows Off a Dream
The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun
The Mirror
Lie
Another Day
Erotomania
Voices
The Silent Man
Encore:
Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper
Eve

What a setlist, huh? A Mind Beside Itself, Eve, TOWHTSTS, Take The Time.. Pretty awesome setlist. But DT weren't the only band to play on the day of my birth!

Pink Floyd
Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V)
Learning to Fly
High Hopes
Take It Back
Poles Apart
Sorrow
Keep Talking
Another Brick in the Wall Part 2
One of These Days
Speak to Me
Breathe
On the Run
Time
Breathe (Reprise)
The Great Gig in the Sky
Money
Us and Them
Any Colour You Like
Brain Damage
Eclipse
Encore:
Comfortably Numb
Wish You Were Here
Run Like Hell

Equally good setlist, maybe some switching out (Did they really feel the need to play all of Dark Side of the Moon this tour..?) but it's an awesome setlist. So, guys, tell me, post the setlists, what bands played on the day of your birth and do you like the setlist?

they don't go that far back for me. :lol

I do want to say I saw both these tours with these setlists.  Old fogey out!

People should be posting the venues/cities of their setlists. There are quite a few of the shows listed here that I could have actually been in attendance.

Anyhoo:
The Who, Amsterdam, Tommy tour

I can't Explain
I don't Even Know Myself
Water
Young Man Blues
Summertime Blues
Shakin all Over
Twist and Shout
My Generation
Magic Bus

This is the same tour and setlist as Isle of Wight. Either they played Tommy after MB and it's not listed or there was some reason the show was cut short.

Deep Purple, Royal Albert Hall
Conceto for Group and Orchestra:
Allegro
Andate
Vivace-Presto

This appears to be a one-off gig. They were touring Europe with In Rock at the time and were in London that week playing different venues with the normal setlist.

Zepplin might or might not have played The Spectrum in Phili that night, tour lists are sketchy. If they did here's the setlist:

    "Immigrant Song" (Page, Plant)
    "Heartbreaker" (Bonham, Page, Plant)
    "Dazed and Confused" (Page)
"Bring It On Home" (Page, Plant, Dixon)
    "That's the Way" (Page, Plant)
    "Bron-Yr-Aur" (Page)
"Since I've Been Loving You" (Page, Plant, Jones)
    "Organ Solo"/"Thank You" (Page, Plant)
"What Is and What Should Never Be" (Page, Plant)
    "Moby Dick" (Page, Jones, Bonham)
"Whole Lotta Love" (Bonham, Dixon, Jones, Page, Plant)

Encore:

    "Communication Breakdown" (Bonham, Jones, Page)
"Out on the Tiles" (Page, Plant, Bonham)
"How Many More Times" (Page, Jones, Bonham)
"Train Kept A-Rollin' (Bradshaw, Kay, Mann)
    "Blueberry Hill" (Lewis, Stock)

The Greatful Dead played 27 songs at the Filmore in NY. Don't like them enough to bother retyping the setlist.

David Bowie played The Penthouse in Edinborough, but there's no setlist.

The Allman Brothers played a festival in NC. Can't find the setlist but here's a video of the show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ssgf6rQRm4s

Also of note, Jimi Hendrix died within hours of my birth.

No, but I occasionally do feel really bad about that.

Most likely before, but since the time of death is unknown, so is the answer to your question. I was born at 11:40 CST on the night of his death. That would have made it 4:40AM Zulu (applicable to London where he died). The girl who called for the meatwagon said he crashed about 0600, but her story is somewhat sketchy.

I was just trying to remember the story...but they all (Morrison, Joplin, Jimi) all kinda blend together for me as far as exacts.  Closest thing I have to your Jimi connection with an important person is that my due date was 11/22/63.... I was 2 weeks late.

The only setlist showing up on my birthday that I actually care a little bit about is this weird one by Dream Theater:

*snip*
Cool, that's the show where they played PMU twice because of the video shoot!

Several cool acts played on my date of birth in 1972, including Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Ray Charles, the Doobie Brothers, and Genesis, but the only setlists I've found are Gentle Giant (who were at the same venue as Black Sabbath, apparently opening up for them - what a weird show that must have been!):

Prologue
Alucard
Funny Ways
Nothing at All
Plain Truth

and the Grateful Dead:

Set I:
The Promised Land
Sugaree
Me and My Uncle
Bird Song
Black-Throated Wind
Tennessee Jed
Mexicali Blues
Deal
Playing in the Band
Loser
Johnny B. Goode
Set II:
China Cat Sunflower
I Know You Rider
Friend of the Devil
Jack Straw
He's Gone
Truckin'
The Other One
Stella Blue
El Paso
Casey Jones
Sugar Magnolia
Encore:
One More Saturday Night

Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.
