Easy Jazz Bass Solos
« on: April 08, 2014, 06:47:27 PM »
Howdy folks. For my Jazz Band class, we have to transcribe and perform a solo for our respective instrument. I of course am on bass.
Any suggestions for solos? I'm looking something about a minute long and relatively simple, yet fun.

Maybe the recording of Straight No Chaser by Miles Davis on the Milestones album, Paul Chamber on bass.

Or maybe that's too difficult... I can't think of easy stuff.

Some suggestions on TalkBass forums:

Alternately, PM either mrjazzguitar or millahh.  MJG is a guitarist who has played with some very well known jazz bassists and millahh is a bassist who is very much into jazz.  I imagine either of them would have some useful input.

How are you defining "easy"?  And electric or upright?

Also, does it have to be a solo that was originally played on your instrument?  I used to be kind of a smartass when we'd play All Blues, and would play the trumpet solo (well, about the first 2/3 of it) nearly note-for-note on upright.
