Canada exists as it does only because the US does all the dirty work required for prosperity. Canada just sits up there in the cold and has to spend so much effort just to ward off frostbite that they don't have the energy left over to become a real power. It was mid-30s this morning, and as I dropped my kids off at school, I saw kids in the yard wearing shorts. It's now warmed up to 40ish.

Shit. I'm wearing several layers of shirts and I'm still freezing. In my defense though... it is really windy. Warmed up to 50 now but I still can't feel my fingertips.

Jay, you're not allowed to use the words "wind chill". Ever. Wind chill can only be used when one or both of the relative measurements need a "-" to accompany the number.

We call "Canadian Bacon", Peameal Bacon up here. I love poutine but I don't care that much about ketchup chips or hockey. Finally getting out of the winter and get a brief couple of weeks of nice weather before the heat and humidity. (and then someone from South America or something says "You call THAT heat and humidity?")

My dad was born and raised in Toronto, but moved to the U.S. shortly before marrying my mom. One time, my dad was telling me about the new curfew "from Don to duss". From Don to...? "From Don to duss" he repeated. I still couldn't understand what the hell he was talking about. Duss?

Then he realized what he was saying. "Oops, I mean from duss to Don. You know, it's a curfew."

From dusk to dawn. This is my own dad, one of two people who actually taught me to speak, and I couldn't even understand him. Why do Canadians talk so funny?

I lived in Minot, North Dakota when I was in kindergarten, which is almost Canada. Most people don't have a lot of memories form kindergarten and before. I do. Memories of walls of snow and miserable weather conditions.

Honestly, if I wasn't going to college, right now, I would be moving to Canada. I don't have anything else here to stick around for except my family.

Maybe I would not move to Vancouver since I'm sure they are still bitter about what happened to the Canucks in the last four years. Not Toronto due to Mayor Ford and what's happening to the Maple Leafs. Maybe I would move to one of the Alberta cities.

Of course, I know they have them, but I live in California right now. I think if I go to a college in Canada, somewhere around next semester, I think it's a big hassle with the transferring transcripts and cost of travel and board and all of that and I'm not in a good position, atm, to do something like that.
