Sherlock (BBC) Theme vs. Dream Theater
« on: April 11, 2014, 10:55:49 AM »
I tried searching and found some Sherlock threads, but nothing about the theme song in particular. Sorry if this has already been discussed.

I just started watching the show (from a friend's suggestion) and the first thing that hit me was the theme song sounded just like a dream theater song. It threw me off, it bothered me, and i had to go search for it. I found that the main melody is very similar to parts in 'In The Presence of Enemies (1&2)'.  Does anyone else hear this? am i crazy? Did anyone in the bnad or their label go "hey now, we published that melody years ago; not that we want to start a Satriani case or anything; but great show btw... "

google turned up this guy:

I suppose i'll respond to him now.

'Moshe Mualem' also seems to get it.

Ha! I hear it!!

I never noticed that. It is quite similar! Not note-perfect, but it's got a very similar vibe. Excellent. I'm going to think of that as the Sherlock bit, now.

Yeah, I thought that as well and my brother, who is also a DT fan, said the same thing, so looks like it's a similarity a lot of people notice!

Same here, never noticed it before! The first half of the phrase is different, but the second half is almost identical. How funny.
