Probably the majority of the forum is too young to know his work, and in later years he was a lessor known comic; but he was a very funny comedian. He was trying to regain entertainment relevance (so I'm told), when he was diagnosed with cancer.

I didn't even hear he was sick.  Seem like a monthly thing reading this now as I get older.
