Appreciating.
The first band I was really "into", and the reason I love hard rock music. And I'm not even American.

Some albums are better than others, and KISS' opinipn of their best songs doesn't tally with mine (as far as the live set goes). Paul Stanley is one of rock's best songwriters. And what a singer until his voice went.
Ace Frehley made me want to play guitar after progressing from the obligatory tennis racket.

Well I was just wondering. Been listening to most of the ´Unmasked´ era cd´s lately and I was surprised by the overall quality. Off course as a 12, 13 year old kid I was sucked into the whole ´KiSS hype´ thing when I was made for loving you came out, even became a member of the KISS Army! (well, the Dutch equivalent, actually). After the three singles from Dynasty came out, my first ´real´ KISS album was Double Platinum, Strutter ´78 being my first real KISS song that really blew me away. After that it was Alive II and I was off to the races! Sort of a soundtrack to my youth and young adult life this band!

Big fan of the band, but didn't really like their last two releases: monster and sonic boom. But I would say that Creatures of the Night is one of my all time favorite discs!

Been playing the hell out of Creatures, Asylum, Carnival of souls and Animalyze lately. Love it. Even Music from the Elder which seem to be a 'love it or hate it case' has some great songs on it, and only one or two real clunkers for me. Only listened to Monster and Sonic Boom once and they had some rockers, they don't seem to have any real songs that stick in the head like the previous albums have.

I always found it ironic that CotN was (after three albums of bitching about being unhappy with the direction of the band) FINALLY the album that Ace Frehley wanted to make...and ultimately, the one he didn't play a single note on...even though he was still technically (though barely) a member of the band.

Been a fan since Alive! first came out. Personally witnessed the glory of Destroyer being thrust upon the world. Played some KISS songs in my very first garage band (actually guitarist's living room band) even though I played keyboards.

Lick it Up along with Animalize were great follow ups to Creatures. Love heavy metal Kiss.

I love Unmasked, Dynasty and The Elder. Not many albums I don't love tbh. Just HiTS, Carnival of Souls ( which I've convinced myself isn't a KISS album), half of Psycho Circus, Crazy Nights and Asylum. And its generally the Gene songs that let the albums down.

I agree with the Gene songs Lowdz. At that time Gene's hands were in too many pots besides music and it showed.

Though the worst 80's Kiss song is "Read My Body".

I agree on both points. There are a few Gene songs that I like though:

As I said, I love half of those albums. Some poor songs on both though. Whenever I hear Reason To Live I want to sing I Want To Know What Love Is over the chorus...

And there are Gene songs I love too, its not all bad. Many are on your list. Not Secretly Cruel though, yuk.

Yeah, those albums are wildly inconsistent. The Gene songs are typically the weak links. I was generally a happy Kiss fan in the 80's.
