I don't think that's fair to say he hasn't been up to his snuff in each of his last four postseason starts. 3 runs in 7 innings against Boston in Game 5 isn't bad by any means. I don't expect an ace to allow 1 run per start in the playoffs to be up to snuff, especially since they are going against tougher competition. And besides, if we extend this to his last 7 postseason starts, he was lights out in his first three last October. And he was great in two of this three starts in the 2012 playoffs. Waino has allowed only 0 or 1 run in five of his 11 career postseason starts. That is pretty damn good, if you ask me. His postseason career ERA is still just over 3, which is great by just about any measure.
As for the 2nd inning, Carpenter's play was the only error technically, but holiday could have caught that bloop hit that loaded the bases, but he decided to slow down and pull up short instead of laying out for the big catch. And on that bloop hit to short left that was just fair, even though it was not catchable, the way Carpenter missed it and then had it get past him just looked Bad News Bears-ish.
