MLB 2014 v. GIANTS LAY PIPE ON MLB 2014 WORLD SERIES STYLE
« on: February 15, 2014, 06:52:15 AM »
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! BASEBALL!

Offseason in a nutshell:

Yankees spend 500m
Braves do some pretty awesome extensions
Orioles practically do nothing
A's make some ridic trades
Boston signs Aj Puuetijowegtiojwi
LAD gets a lot of pitching depth, sign Cuban SS/2B
Selig to retire following the end of the seasons (TYBG)
Jeter is a man of the people and retires at the end of this season so people forget about Selig's retirement
A-Rod suspended for the season.
Rangers trade Kinsler to the Tigers for Prince and cash.

Jimenez and Santana still remain unsigned. Same with Drew. #bizarroworld

Yeah, locking up Freeman for all of his prime years was really good, hopefully they can come with a same kind of extension for Heyward (they need to lock them up so they can stay competitive, if not, this team has a 2 year window to win it all). If Kimbrel wins arbitration then he won't be a Brave for long :/

I like baseball and all but getting excited for pitchers and catchers is like getting excited by the "Turn your cellphone off" ads before the movie previews.

Yankees spend 500m

I really hate this error because what they did was guarantee contracts worth that amount, not actually spend the money. It only bugs me because it's so wildly used in publications that should know better, especially when it's used to slant articles about team finances in certain ways.

500m in guaranteed contracts that, if the player isn't traded, will cost the Yankees 500m. Or, Yankees spend 500m.

Braves reach an agreement with Craig Kimbrel for a 4-year contract with an option for 2018.

Wow! I didn't think that was going to happen!

So...I'm the only one that gets excited by that then? I mean, come on. It's a sign that you're one step closer to the thing you came for (movie, baseball, prostitutes, whatever).

No, spending means you actually spent that money. They didn't cut $500MM worth of checks.

Plus, I think its a sign that Spring is coming.
It gives the non Hockey/Basketball people something to grasp onto after Football ends.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

I was having a convo with some friends about who would on baseball's Mount Rushmore.

My picks were Babe Ruth (the most obvious no-brainer), Willie Mays, Hank Aaron and Stan Musial.

You can say me taking Musial over Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, etc. is a homer pick, and maybe it is, but to me, the Cardinals are easily the 2nd most storied franchise in the history of the sport, and since Stan the Man is the greatest and most iconic Cardinal ever, he should be on there.

Feel free to agree or disagree. :)

Can't go wrong with any of those guys. Mantle wasn't as great a hitter as those 4. Mantle was fucking great though. Williams not being on the list is kind of shocking, but yeah, nothing wrong with being a homer.

Cy Young over Musial.

Ty Cobb over Mays.

My Mt. Rushmore would be Cobb, Ruth, Williams & Mays.

Nice to see the the Orioles are spending some money. Hopefully Cruz can stay off the juice and still be a decent player.

Can I say, Larry Lucchino is an ass?  The shots he took at the Yankees is asinine.  Every time we win a WS he bangs his chest.  What randy Levine said after was priceless and 100% true.  Larry you suck.

With all the money they've spend they could've easily resign the "cost-prohibitive" Cano.
