Apparently he had a serious history of drug addiction.  I had no idea....

Found with the syringe still in his arm...

Can't believe he was only 46; he looked 10-15 years older than that...though I suppose that much hard living will have that effect.

I am so saddened by this news. An otherwise awesome day has had a dark cloud casted over it.

This actually worse...he'd been sober for TWENTY years, and just relapsed (starting with pills) six months ago.  That goes from just being a waste to bordering on tragic.

Another wonderful talent, wasted, due to drugs. He was one of the finest actors of our generation. Very versatile, and such a pleasure watch a master of his craft.

Very sad for his family for sure. Having never done drugs, I can't imagine the level of addiction required to do something like this knowing all he had to live for.

He was my favorite actor. He was so good in every movie I saw him in whether it was a big movie like Moneyball or Capote, or an indie film like The Savages. He was a talent in every sense of the word, and one that comes very rarely. Rest in peace.

Seems a few people were aware of his current situation. Several people had him on their lists, and that wouldn't have happened if people didn't suspect he was back on heroin. His drug use was completely off of my radar, and I actually pay attention to the tabloids for this very sort of info.

Apparently they're investigating whether or not he had good or "bad" heroin. It seems that a lot of people have OD'd up there shooting a mixture of heroin and fentanyl. For some reason, assholes are selling the mixture without telling their customers what it is, and people OD due to the considerably higher potency. Honestly, killing your customers is a remarkably shortsighted business strategy.

A neighbor also reported seeing him yesterday looking ashen and generally terrible. I suppose it's also possible there was an underlying medical condition. I'd certainly bet on the overdose, but it just seems odd to me that somebody with 20+ years of heroin experience would OD with a still full needle in their arm.

R.I.P Philip.

The idea of "lists" is rather gruesome - is there some sort of market in who's going to cark it next?  :-\

Barto I get what you were saying about bad heroin, but the asshole who sold him the drugs didn't kill him; him shoving a needle full of poison into his arm killed him. I'm not referring to you specifically and I mean know personal disrespect but it sickens me when people blame everyone but the addict. The media is really good at this sort of thing. He might have been a great actor but he was a fuckhead for using that shit in the first place.  I know several people who work in local law enforcement.  Two of them from different jurisdictions have told me within the last year that about 40% of everything they do at the police department now involves heroin or meth. People are fucking stupid.  They know what this crap does but they run out in record numbers to try it anyway.

I understand addiction but goddamn why try it initially at all? Come on people!
