TIL that it's not a good idea to confuse Defie with Define, you learn something new every.  :lol

To the question: No not really, my musical tastebuds is all over the place.

I love this song:

the slow buildup is just phenomenal. And it defies my music catalog.

Eminim.....really can't listen to Rap/Hip Hop  but for whatever reason alot of his lyrics click with me

I can understand that, seeing that he is probably the best lyricist hip hop has ever seen.

I third this.  I'm not really a hip-hop fan, but his lyrical ability is something I listen to with awe.

The best instructive example I think is No Love,  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KV2ssT8lzj8  where Lil Wayne does the first half of the song and Eminem does the second half.

You can contrast the two, and see how Eminem blows away Lil Wayne.  Not only the creativeness of the lyrics but the speed he goes through them, and it's not just the rhymes, it's the content/meaning as well.

I would love this minus the talking part.  The build up is cool.  I dig the drumming and the bass!!!

Good question. I'd say it might not be a band, but some viral videos/songs in general. While I generally don't listen to anything considered pop, I will watch endless parodies of things like Gungnam Style and The Fox.

Muse is definitely has more of a general pop edge than most of what I listen to. Neal Morse in a way, because lyrically he is unlike most of what I listen to, in that he is the only 110% super christian lyricist in my collection.

Eminem probably fits in with the rest of my music the least. Followed by Paramore.

I would say my two Rod Stewart albums. I got a best of and his unplugged. What can I say, I dig the guy. Handbags and Gladrags is one of my all time favorite songs.

The only Rod Stewart song I've ever heard is his cover of Downtown Train, but he has a great voice. I should probably check out his stuff.

Most of the unplugged albums done at that time were incredible. Clapton's was f'ing mind blowing.

Unplugged and seated is AWESOME.  The only Rod album I have.  My favorite unplugged album... ahead of Five Man Acoustical Jam.

I love Tears For Fears.

TAC, I was never a fan of Nirvana but that was a very good show and their Bowie cover was fantastic.

Yes..
And speaking of Duran Duran, I remember seeing the video to Planet Earth, and thinking how queer this band looks. A while later, I was listening the King Biscuit Flower Hour, and this band was on that I didn't recognize. I remember thinking, geez, they are not half bad. It's pretty rocking. And the at the end, I recognize the last song as Planet Earth. I was like, oh no..was I just getting into THEM?? :lol

I bought Piece Of Mind with another album too on the same day. It was Riot's Narita.

Oddly I also remember that the same night Maiden played at the Civic Center on the Powerslave tour, Madonna played at Foxboro Stadium.

Tears for Fears is amazing.

Yes yes yes.

Though I grew up listening to them so it kinda started my catalog instead of defying it.

Woman in Chains and Advice for the Young at Heart are my top Tears For Fears songs.

Have the first four Pet Shop Boys records.  Still say you'd be hard pressed to find a more beautiful song than Do I Have To.

I listen to German rap. That should suffice for this thread :lol

Must have link! :lol

I love this guy:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DD0A2plMSVA
I only checked out Stadtaffe for the first time about six months ago, on account of the first Seeed album being great, the second being ok, and the third being atrocious, and me just figuring a solo album by one of those guys was gonna be shite at that point. Crazy good album. I read somewhere he doesn't want to do any more solo albums though, to focus on Seeed.

I would say my two Rod Stewart albums. I got a best of and his unplugged. What can I say, I dig the guy. Handbags and Gladrags is one of my all time favorite songs.

I have a 2 CD set from the 70's & 80's which is the bomb.
He was also the singer on one of the early Jeff Beck albums, called Truth, that has some really good songs on it. I recall him standing out on Morning Dew and Ol' Man River.

Mine would most likely be Movits!. I'd say these guys would stick out a mile in most people's music collections though. A Swedish poppy modern rap group that pays homage to jazz, and occasionally other styles. Has to be heard to be believed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqwfDNzTYks

If not Movits, I really enjoyed the album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
