Hi everyone,
I created this thread as I attended the concert and I wanted to give you my impressions.
Nothing really new in terms of information, but just the confirmation of what was been said on the Italian shows!
The setlist was of course the same, luckily everything went smoothly and no songs were dropped.
The venue is not very big but it was quite full of people, the atmosphere was very good and there was a great interaction between the band and the audience. James asked us many times to join him and a couple of times left the audience to sing alone, parts of BAI and FF.
Some random thoughts (of neat disorder…)
- TSF: it's one of my least favorite DT songs, but it worked great live, especially the strong beginning and the build up. The sound was a bit muddy at times, but this was true for the first 3-4 songs and then it got better. All in all it's a good choice to give a taste of the 12 steps suite.
- EM: it was another highlight for me, the playing was great, the visuals entertaining, the audience was singing along to some of the parts (not bad considering it's an instrumental…) and the interplay between MM and the audience during his solo was great
- BAI and OTBOA: I had seen them live two years ago, but I really enjoyed this performance, very tight and strong
- the Awake songs: Awake is my favorite album, especially the second part, so hearing it altogether was incredible, in the middle of Scarred I was in total bliss. Most of it was due to James nailing every part and getting really close to his delivery on the album!
- SDV: I love the song, but I was skeptical about the live performance. I was wrong! I think it's great that they stayed loyal to the original version for the first part but decided to give new strength to the final part. The heavier arrangement and raised vocals really worked well for me.
- IT: A great song and a really great live experience. There's not much more to say that hasn't been said!
- Jordan: he was very active, inviting the audience to participate when he was not playing, and entertaining when he was soloing with the keytar in front of us.
But the real highlight of the show for me was James. He was absolutely incredible, I was speechless to hear his delivery, so great even in the most demanding songs. I was expecting some problems since the concert was the 4th in a row, but he proved stronger than ever. He didn't sing the F on IT, preferring to slightly alter the melody, but on all other parts he impeccably sang the original lines even adding a few more high notes. And the high notes sounded good, precise and strong.
I think all of you who are going to hear him in the next days are in for a treat!
Last note: the video during the intermission was worth the admission ticket alone!
