Disney park geeks--I need your help!
« on: January 24, 2014, 03:09:23 PM »
I know we have a couple of folks on the forum who are Disney insiders and frequent Disney visitors, but I can't remember who you are.  Please let me know.  Planning a trip and I need some scoop on a couple of issues.  Thanks.

Well, I'm dragging the whole clan down to Orlando in March and Mrs. P and I try to do that every few years or so. I have no idea if that qualifies me but I'd be happy to answer any question that I'm able to.

I think jingle.boy indicated that he goes more frequently than that. Maybe not the best choice of words...

I've worked in Walt Disney World for 7 years, and now I work part-time with Broadcast Productions in Disneyland. I'm a pretty big Disney geek and know the ins and outs of the Disney parks. I'll definitely help you!

Bosk, PM me and I'll put you in contact with my wife.  Her family has been going there at least once a year since the early 80s.  I really don't know anyone who knows Disney better than they do.

Three trips to DisneyWORLD, and three Disney cruises.  Not sure if that qualifies us as 'geeks', but more than happy to offer insights.  Mrs.jingle is the true genius though.  Feel free to hit me up here, or on the books of faces.

Despite not liking the movie much at all, I would still explore the fuck out of that. If they do it right and with detail, that could be so epic. But I have my doubts it'll be as extravagant as that last pic  :lol But hey, if they've learned how to terraform just for a theme park then good on them! Although really, Chino's expectations will probably not be able to be met... Hell, for me to make a ride, it'll have to be pretty damned unbelievable. I don't think I'd ever actually end up going but...we'll see...someday.

I didn't say fail...but they might not live up to the expectations of the Avatar zealots. Let alone my own for having to pay/travel/take the time to go there. If I'm gonna go, I wanna feel like I'm in another world. Which it looks to be, but I'm not holding my breath. I'd rather be happily surprised; cause I really wouldn't wanna go just to have it feel like a beefed up 'ride'.

If there is one thing that Disney does right, it is theming, and I think that's the biggest appeal for guests coming into our parks. You go in and you're able to be transported into another world, leaving the troubles of daily lives behind. And i think that's why you hear adults say they feel like a kid again going to a Disney park.

Disney has done a phenomenal job with their park updates, from the expanded Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom, and the entire reconstruction of Disney California Adventure. Here some pics I took of Cars Land. Going into this area at DCA, it feels like you got transported in a Pixar movie.

Chino, I think got something cool for you! Before they released the concept art for the Avatar land, they had a small taste of what's to be expected at last years D23.

Me wearing a Navi backpack and holding up a boot

Also at that moment, I ran into Disney legend, Imagineering rock star Joe Rhodes, who is heading the Avatar land, and is responsible for the incredible Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park in general.
