Haken is a weird case for me where the vocals usually irritate me on the albums, but live I don't have a problem with them and enjoy the show.

With Voyager, I never had a problem with them; it's different but I like that and think it works well.

I agree with Kattelox about starting with Ghost Mile.   :metal

The voice is what is keeping me from pulling the trigger. Not sure I really dig his timbre. It's different, which is fine, but it doesn't sit very well with my ear for some reason. I may have to keep playing the amazon samples of the record for a bit before making a decision.

Thank you guys.

I felt the same way, when I heard this band was headlining progpower, I checked them out and was kind of turned off by the vocals.  But not totally, I was kind of intrigued.  I tried listening a couple more times and kept feeling the same way and just kind of said, meh not for me.  I tried one more time a week before the show and all of the sudden it clicked.  Maybe it just takes some warming up.

Yeah, I'm going to keep going back to them for a bit. I'm an album guy, I feel sorta bad checking things out extensively before buying, but it just makes sense.

Danny's definitely got a unique voice. It clicked instantly for me though.

I've been checking these guys out lately too, and the vocals are a bit odd.  Musically, they're pretty cool and I like the djenty feel of V.  I keep coming back to that one vs. The Meaning of I.  So far, I've only heard those two albums.

If you prefer V, I would definitely suggest Ghost Mile.

"Colours in the Sun" arrives November 1st!!

Music video for the new single "Colours" here: https://youtu.be/reFRCJzHN8I

"Brightstar" video from a few months ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDoITQV7324

Loving both of these songs. Ashley is my favorite drummer out there now, and the rest of the band are some of my favorite musicians too. I have no doubt this will be one of my favorite albums of the year.

Voyager haters stay out.  :loser:

I love that cover art so much. I had a feeling it would be colorful based on the visuals for Brightstar, but I'm really happy it's exactly what I expected. Voyager has these lovely, warm, vibrant color schemes to their videos. Ghost Mile, Ascension, especially those beautiful colors in The Meaning of I - all beautiful, and Colours and Brightstar are just as good. I think I might buy this one on vinyl, it's such a gorgeous aesthetic.

The color transition in the video is cool, when the music picks up.  Reminds me of some 80s synths and feel with that car, then things brighten up and the song kicks in.  I dig it, a lot.

Hello? Is this thing on? Voyager fans, where ya'll at? The new album "Colours In The Sun" drops today and I can't freaking wait to hear it after work. Hell I might try to sneak in a listen at work if I find a few moments where I can focus on it. This is one of my most anticipated releases of the year.

For me, Voyager has gotten better with each record going back to I Am The ReVolution, and Ghost Mile is just outside of my top 10 albums of all time. So, I don't expect this to be better than Ghost Mile, but who knows? This band is everything. :2metal:

Still digesting this one. Ghost Mile and V were very strong efforts. I personally think the track with Einar was the most boring LOL.

Not yet, I very rarely pick out individual tracks on a first listen. So the ones that stood out were the singles and the one with Einar, but that doesn't make them the better songs. It all sounded pretty great!

Just bought it on amazon, I'll have it on my phone and ready for some listening while traveling on Sunday.  Not sure I'll listen before then, but the fact I'm in possession of it is a good start.  I really enjoyed the single Colours.

I am blown away by this album. I had high expectations and normally they're never met when they're so high, but Colours In The Sun is remarkable. I don't think there is a single subpar track on here. The band sounds like they still have no shortage of creative musical ideas in the tank, from the rhythms to the synths to the lyrics. The shorter length of the album works in its favor, too - 42 minutes is perfect. The songs are adventurous but concise. I just played through it almost 2 full times in a row without thinking about it.

This is already likely to be my #2 favorite Voyager album. I love this one.

On my second listen right now, and on proper speakers.  So far, so good!  Mix seems a bit clearer than Ghost Mile, a little more balanced and less face hugging.  These guys are on a pretty good run right now. :metal

I just discovered this band. Really cool, and they're from Perth, where I lived for a while, which makes it even more special. I'm discussing a possible interview with them - it will be tough to align, since we're in VERY different time zones, but we'll see. If/when it's confirmed, I'll post here and ask for questions.

First time hearing Voyager with their New Album. Good stuff, on Reconnected and had to laugh at the "Let It Go" part. I can imagine singing it and kids saying "That's not how you sing it."

They're a pretty good band. Will check out their debut next.

I don't love the new album.  Probably listened to it at least 5 or 6 times now.  It's not bad but it just doesn't stand out besides a few songs and being short without much standing out, it kind of comes off a bit bland.  First three songs may be my favorite.  I do really enjoy the sound of this album though. I plan on listening to it a bunch more this week, but with lots of other good music out there, if I don't find any new connections to draw me in more, I probably won't be returning to it for awhile.

WWhat was the songwriting process like for Colours in the Sun? Did most of the ideas start as melodies, or did they start as rhythmic ideas with the drums or djenty guitar riffs? Were there any musical ideas 'left over' from the Ghost Mile recording sessions used on Colours in the Sun?

Runaway is a fantastic song.  I've listened another 3 times between yesterday and today so far.  I'm not sure my overall opinion is changing, it's solid music from front to end, but just doesn't have a whole lot that stands out and makes me really love it.  The first and last track are probably my favorites.  Entropy is a cool song and then maybe Severomance and Brightstar round up the songs I enjoy the most.
