The band with the most past members?
« on: January 15, 2014, 09:44:39 AM »
I was just looking at the Wiki page of Suicidal Tendencies, and was thoroughly impressed by their turnaround rate:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicidal_Tendencies

Are there even better ones, I.e. with more past members?

So, 24 for Suicidal Tendencies; 27 for Cradle of Filth (aided by the 8 former keyboardists).

Whitesnake gets my vote.  33 if I count correctly.

What about how many people have played for Yngwie's band?  That's gotta be up to a thousand by now.

I was just looking at the Wiki page of Suicidal Tendencies,

That's a strange place to be on a Wednesday morning. How'd you end up there?
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Tower of Power is up over 60 apparently.

heh, just came to post this band.  TOP has had a revolving door at several positions.  Vocals, guitar, keys, trumpets, lead sax, etc.  The good thing is that almost all of them have been top notch musicians.

I don't think it counts if the posititions are always implicitly rotating, though. Should I dig up how many people have been in Bob Dylan's band since the 60s?

Unfortunately it doesn't break it down by into categories: Left by own will, kicked out, or eaten by Yngwie

someone like The Polyphonic Spree or Trans Siberian Orchestra probably makes the most sense in terms of sheer numbers of people who played with them at 1 time. If you consider the split version of TSO, I mean it's got to be well over 100.

I think it would be more tricky to find out what bands have had the least member changes.

ZZ Top

Rush.  One member change.  Can't come up with any with zero.

Obviously, any RECENT band would be more likely. If they've only had one album, have only been around for less than, say, 3 to 5 years, chances are, they haven't had any line-up changes since their inception.

Also, band-name changes could change. I mean, Dream Theater was once Majesty, but that changed when Charlie Dominici joined the band and replaced Chris Collins, so in reality, Majesty really only had one line-up...kind of.

Anyway, I think if you're going to look for a band with the fewest line-up changes, I'd say they'd have to be around for at LEAST 5 years (10 or more would be impressive), and have at least a few albums under their belt.

Yeah Rush was the only one I could think that's been around with only one.

I guess Alter Bridge has been holding on strong with their lineup. Not too long yet.

Exactly. Edge's brother was briefly in the band before they were signed but since they were called U2 and signed to Island they haven't changed a member.

And they can't now. it's Larry Mullen's band and if Adam left I think they'd just split up. Anyone else on bass would just be weird.

Untrue.  Rush was actually a 5-piece once.  True story.  And they had a guy fill in for Rutsey for a short period once as well.  Learning lots in my Illustrated Rush history book I got for xmas.

Nope. One of the only bands I can think of that hasn't had any changes to members. I'm pretty positive, at least..

Zeppelin.  It's not like you can call the couple of reunion shows with Jason a continuation of the band.
