2014-01-22 - Palalottomatica - Rome, ITA
« on: December 21, 2013, 03:18:05 PM »
Looks like I will be the only one here on the forum going to this one. I am Roman and don't live far from the venue, in Southern Rome. I got me a meet & greet as I feel it's going to worth it.
Anyone else interested? Or planning to make it?

Could be a good idea for someone of you European fans coming to Rome to match this concert with some days in the city, especially if you don't know it (enough). Tickets: advice is to get those sold as "parterre" as they are standing places, not numbered of course, coming early PM would ensure a good view of the show, the higher you go the less you see and especially hear, the sound gets distorted in highest part of the palais, it's really terrible, don't go there.

The venue has been THE historical hub for rock concerts in the lat 4 decades in Rome, I've seen there (in more than 30 years) lots of gigs ranging from Genesis (Phil singing the Lamb sitted on the stage with my hands on his knees) and Bowie (got a high 5 with him) to Peter Gabriel, Simple Minds, Ultravox, Yes, just to name some all of you know.

Wow, I started an Italian-spoken thread...
For all others, the replies are about... How can I phrase it... Regional roots and Inter-regional disputes... :D  :rollin
Anyway, all you European fans are invited - at your own expenses though :\

Let's just say that there is one Italian region that has been faking its own existence for around fourty years. Recent scientific papers have proven beyond anyone's doubt that said region cannot exist according our present understanding of the laws of Physics. There's even a Facebook group about that  :tup

Le vendite al Palalottomatica pare procedano piuttosto bene. I primi due anelli si stanno riempiendo velocemente.
Assago invece piuttosto lentino ancora.

I understood that wasteland is going to Florence.
Mike will be pleased to give more info on this, as he's a subject matter expert. Honestly, being Roman, I am not very informed in such mountainside disputes. By the way, Mike would be pleased to know that on the Italian FB page for the concert there is a guy boasting he's coming all the way from Molise - what if this one is going to be your neighbour on Wednesday night?  A-ha!!! :xbones

Ready to go, i'm waiting for my i-whatevers to recharge 100% then I just need to refuel car and find a good parking place for free in the close proximity of the venue, so I can be back home around midnight.
I knew you were all waiting these updates from me with anxiety. Uh? Not really? :blush
I'm expecting a BIG concert after seeing reviews from Milano and Firenze...
Will tell you tomorrow...

This was my first DT concert, and first metal-ish concert overall. And it was mindblowing. The songs, the performance, the lights and video helped to build one hell of a show! Highlights of the night were Looking Glass, Enigma Machine, Trial Of Tears, The Mirror/Lie, Space Dye Vest (this one really grabbed me, especially the last chorus), Illumination Theory and Finally Free especially. Everything was great, and I had a lot of fun! I will surely go and watch them again sometimes.

I haven't been able to find a vid of Finally Free yet that actually lets me hear the drums in the outro.  Would love to hear what Mangini is doing with that section.  From what I can tell he's not following MP's old drum parts there but doing his own thing.  Problem is, I can't hear whatever it is he is doing due to where the camera is or just the drums being drowned out.

Anybody know of a good vid of Finally Free where you can actually hear the drums clearly?

I'm speachless, don't want to go much in details as the WHOLE show was great.
I wanted to share some personal trivia about them but maybe not interesting for most of you, just one thing I really think makes sense: at the end of the show when the guys were taking their last round of triumph with the crowd, as Mangini approached where we were (Petrucci area) we all went "Mangini - Mangini" like crazy (by the way pronouncing correctly his surname, not Menginy like I often hear) and he was litterarly moved to tears! He is our new local hero! He did a great job, just like all others, flawless and enthusiastic performance. James went "it's raining, raining on the street of Roma city" - does he sing this in each show? Not sure...
I can tell you the band went away very happy, I think I saw even JM smiling (almost).
Big crowd but bit less than expected, they didn't open the upper level as I think they didn't sell 100% of the tickets in lower levels, but ok, you barely hear anything up there, and the place is VERY big. I can estimate we were around 8000 people, but I have no official figure.

Okay, when he sings "I spent so long trusting in YOOOUUUUU!" Holy shit. He NAILED that part. Easily the best vocal performance of that one line I've heard.

Check this shit, best LSOAD performance so far. Not one missed note.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtE6g5DwaKE

EDIT: That guy also has Scarred and Trial of Tears, which are both difficult (and high) points for James throughout the night. It seems the Rome gig has been his best so far... I'm glad to see he's warmed up now.

Well, in the M&G before, I told James that I've heard he was really perfect in Milano and Firenze, he thanked me but then I said "and tonight you're going tobe even better" so he stared back to me saying "how could I possibly do that?" and I answered "you will, James" he said "ok"  smiling ..... And he did!

Superglad to hear that, Octavarious! Concerts in italy have been beyond amazing!!! About the bolded part: yes, that's typical. He's been doing this "adaptation" for quite a long time. He sang "Florence city" on Tuesday evening as well =)
