Been listening to their whole discography this week. Love these guys!  :metal

I believe their new album is going to be released early 2019. Very psyched for that!  :metal

Source?  Is it Netherworld III?

It's called The Ghost Experiment. They have been posting updates on their FB page.

Sounds good  :tup I tend to only listen to songs that are released ahead of the album only once, but I also usually need lots of listens to digest something, so I don't have much to say about the tracks so far  ;D
With only 6 tracks, I was expecting maybe a big long epic, but if the track list I saw is accurate, that's not the case and the album is less than 47 minutes long.

@ T-Ski... I think we were talking about it in a couple other threads.  I'm very pumped for this album.  Typical VP stuff... which kicked my ass.

Yeah it got mentioned in the hard rock thread Ski.  The first song released was amazing.  The second song here is pretty standard but will wait for the album.  I'm happy with more typical VP.  Very strong band.

Holy crap. Been playing this album non-stop since Friday. Nice mix of Beyond Daylight and their current heavier style. All the songs in this album are well constructed and very catchy. Has anyone else listened to this album?

Will take a while to digest, as always with me, but it sounds pretty good so far. Not sure I'll like it more than either Netherworld album though.

Frontiers posted that Part II will be released in 2020.

I thought Netherworld was a tad too long. It does have some great gems though.

Just got through a first listen.  I thought the first track was weak and each track improved a bit from there with the best tracks being four and (esp) five and then we have the lead single last which I don't mind.

Overall..........I might return to a couple of tracks but not something I am raving over at all.

If I had to rate it at this point maybe high 70's-80 , which is quite a bit below both Netherworld albums which I thought were their best in a while , especially the second.

I saw Vanden Plas opening for DT back then and listened to some songs here and there over time and they never grabbed me.

Today I listened to the Seraphic Clockwork and that wasn't bad at all, maybe they aren't as bland as I thought. Is this record representative of their style? Is it one of their better ones? Where to go next?

I would go to the Netherworld albums first and then - having some idea of your taste - the debut Color Temple (which made my DTF Top 50)    I have always been a fan but found them quite inconsistent for much of the time.

I started with their debut way back then and it remains my favourite -  Andy's vocals were rough (some would say still are :)  ) but it's a very consistent album and I thought that slightly progressive melodic metal style suited their abilities best.   Since they turned proggier I have felt in most cases that it stretched their songwriting to the point of them struggling to fill out an album with quality songs in the way that DT can  , although the two Netherworld albums softened my view on that.

I recall getting the first of the proggier albums on release (The God Thing) and hearing Rainmaker for the first time ........ :hefdaddy .........but the rest of the album couldn't get close and since then I have been very patiently waiting for something that good.  It's taken a long time but I think they have become a lot more consistently good in recent years.

I'll echo Brent's comment on Rainmaker.  Top 10 song from the 2000s in my books.  I'd rate as follows:

Chronicles I
Chronicles II
Beyond Daylight
Far Off Grace
Christ 0
The God Thing
Seraphic Clockwork
Colour Temple (sorry Brent... I feel it has the weakest songs - though, I got in to VP all at once around Christ 0)

I'm guessing Ghost Experiment will land before or after Beyond Daylight, but I've only listened to it twice.

I only have Christ 0 on cardboard sleeve promo CD, looking to upgrade to the proper disc, seems as though it's not as cheap as I thought it would be. Is this release OOP already?

I picked up the Epic Works box set this weekend. What a great value. 11 CDs (complete with full jewel cases and liner notes), a nice booklet, and cool box for 65 bucks. I had stupidly sold off the majority of my VP collection when I did my stupid CD purge 12 years ago. So to get them all again, plus four albums I didn't have...just a great set.

I love the new album. I have had a media download of it for awhile, and really been spinning it a ton. That's what set me off in getting the box set. I have a bit to catch up on. I stopped after The Seraphic Clockwork (which I bought but don't recall ever listening to it), so Christ 0 and the two Chronicles of the Immortals records are new to me. Such a great band. And to think they have been together for like 25 years, without a lineup change. That's something, given that it is a full band, and not just a power trio.

Looking forward to catching up on the VP story and getting re-acquianted with the albums I already liked.

I bought Far Off Grace back in the early 00's I bet, but never kept up with the band.  Sometime within the last year, I've been working on getting the majority of them.

I feel rather dumb for not following the band for the last 15-20 years.  It's hard to find a bad record in the bunch.

Very consistent band. One of my closest friends returned to the U.S. after serving in Germany (Air Force) and when he came home in 1999, he got me into Vanden Plas. Totally killer band.

Haven't checked out the new album yet but gave the live CD they released last year a spin in the car.  I haven't even watched the DVD or listened to the CD but the CD was very enjoyable.  I don't think it's the strongest set, but a great performance all round.

EDIT: Shit, just thought since it's for the SC album I just checked and it was released in 2017.  Holy moly times flies.
