Twenty weeks have passed, and 1120 matches were decided by us. Congrats to the following songs, that finished the regular season with a record of 20-0: A Change of Seasons, Lines In the Sand, Trial of Tears, Home, Octavarium and Breaking All Illusions.

Up next, we shall have Tournaments for the 12 Albums.

Instead of going through the albums chronologically, we'll be going in order of the album's collective winning percentages (which can be seen on the Original Post of this thread), but in reverse. This means, that the schedule for album tournaments will be as follows:

1. When Dream and Day Unite (.194)
2. Systematic Chaos (.364)
3. Falling Into Infinity (.378)
4. Dream Theater (.436)
5. Black Clouds and Silver Linings (.454)
6. Octavarium (.516)
7. A Dramatic Turn of Events (.544)
8. Train of Thought (.582)
9. Scenes From a Memory (.664)
10. Awake (.680)
11. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (.779)
12. Images & Words (.813)

These tournaments will be ran two at a time. They will be single elimination and will include every song on the album, regardless of regular season record. Wins and losses in these tournaments will be added to the song's record, and the top 64 songs in terms of winning percentage will move on to the 64 Song Tournament to crown a champion for 2014.

The Tournament for WDADU will begin on Monday. The Tournament for SC will begin on Tuesday.

Nope. Fortunately enough, A Change of Seasons just faced Eve in Week 20. These songs would have been the top two songs in the Independent Tournament, so we have a pretty good idea of what would have happened.

Thanks for doing this, DoC.  It really is a neat concept, and a lot of fun.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

You're all quite welcome. This band is what brought us all together. I always felt that we could do a little better than the survivor format for their music.

Hold up, hold up. I've not been participating in this, but I just saw something that made my jaw drop.

38 people prefer In the Presence of Enemies to The Dark Eternal Night?!

Jeeeeeesus! I'm not into shaming or dismissing people for having different opinions, but I really didn't know ItPoE was that highly regarded, and I thought The Dark Eternal Night was decently popular even with people who don't tend to like the rest of Systematic Chaos. That's not, "Your opinion is different to my opinion and it's bad," it's "I really do not have as clear a pulse on this message board as I thought I did." I'm also a bit surprised it beat The Bigger Picture. I don't hate In the Presence of Enemies or anything, I think Pt. 1 is easily top ten stuff, but I really did not see it as that level of juggernaut.

I think a lot of its reputation is based purely on its length. At 25 minutes, it's spoken of among the "epics", the likes of ACOS and 8VM purely by default. But (imo) it can't hold a candle to those masterpieces.

I think a lot of its reputation is based purely on its length. At 25 minutes, it's spoken of among the "epics", the likes of ACOS and 8VM purely by default. But (imo) it can't hold a candle to those masterpieces.

Personally, I can't get enough of In the Presence of Enemies... it has everything IMHO. And I love the lyrics too...

Most of the championship matches have been absolute hammerings by the #1 seed. Shows how far ahead they are, even compared to the next-"best" songs.

That's funny, it turned out pretty much exactly how I thought it would.

Besides, TDEK is fairly highly regarded - in that the people who like it REALLY like it.  But I rarely hear anyone say that it's the best song from the album.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

38:5, though - that's a hammering. I thought the board would have had it as one of the more popular songs off Systematic Chaos set against one of the more flawed epics. Tall man against a short giant. I think I'd probably have expected ItPoE to win on balance, but I'd also have expected it to be bloody close.

Last year's score:   1.   In the Presence of Enemies defeats. 5. The Dark Eternal Night 29-7

ItPoE is without question the most universally liked song on the album. Of course there are exceptions, but this result doesn't surprise me at all. Their seeding and records in the past two years only solidifies this.

ITPOE is my favourite song from DT, though. Probably has to do with SC being the first album I've heard, but anyway.

TDEN is, by my experience, quite a polarizing song. There are people who love that side of DT, and there are people who hate it with passion, claiming it to be in their bottom five. All the while ITPOE is generally regarded as best song on SC, mostly thanks to the first part. I think it was predictable enough, though I agree 38:5 may be a bit too much, I expected it to be like 33:10 at least.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Generally regarded as the best song on a not-so-highly regarded album. The fact we had the SC tournament 2nd here testifies to that.

I'd say that is accurate.  But while TDEK is definitely one of the more popular songs from that album, ITPOE is the most popular, however flawed it may be.

I notice that some of the tournaments are labelled "[Album] Tournament", and some are "[Album] Album Survivor". Is there a reason for this?

Any time I used "survivor" was in error. Not sure why I did this.

Tiebreakers for 3 or more songs for the end of season 64 Song Tournament will be A. Best Head to Head Record against all tied songs. B. Album Champion  C. Strength of Victory D. Strength of Schedule E. Point Differential. Once this group is narrowed down to two songs, the tiebreakers for the two songs apply.

It would take a long time for me to work out all of the tiebreakers, so I will use an online random number program to seed songs with the same winning percentage.

Edit* Well that worked out great. It isn't possible for any one of the top 32 songs to run into another song in the top 32 that's from the same album. Also, this only resulted in one case where working out the tiebreakers might have changed the seeding (an instance where two songs ended up as the last two "7" seeds and a third song ended up as the top "8" seed.
