Caladan Brood - Echoes of Battle

1. City of Azure Fire
2. Echoes of Battle
3. Wild Autumn Wind
4. To Walk the Ashes of Dead Empires
5. A Voice Born of Stone and Dust
6. Book of the Fallen

Okay, this is seriously one of the most amazing albums that I have heard this year. Some of the best black metal I know - the lyrics are a little on the cheesy side (as the titles would probably suggest), but the music is so amazing that I can't bring myself to care. Some great atmosphere on this album, the melodies are out of this world and some of those clean vocal sections are just awe-inspiring.

For those interested, check out the track "Wild Autumn Wind", or just have a go at this amazing album on their bandcamp page - you won't regret it.

I knew you'd dig this. Wait until you get to the solo or the outro. :D

I dug that track, and I don't even like or listen to black metal. :eek To be honest, I didn't realise black metal could sound like this. I'll definitely have to give the whole album a listen on Bandcamp later.

Terrible guitar tone, but I guess it wouldn't be black metal if it sounded any better. :lol

I'm going to check it out later, but is Agalloch a fair comparison?

Somewhat. A closer comparison would probably be Summoning, but I don't know if they mean anything to you. They have certain elements of Agalloch in there, but the whole approach is quite a bit different, in my opinion.

I probably should have made a thread for this when I came across this band a few months back.

Fantastic album, very likely my album of the year when the dust settles. I have a bias towards it because the music is based on the Malazan novels of Steven Erikson, my favorite fantasy writer, but even if I had never read word one of those books, I'd love this album. The chorus of Wild Autumn Wind has been my sig for the past few months. I fuckin' LOVE this album.
The bones of beasts and the bones of kings become dust in the wake of the hymn.
Mighty kingdoms rise, but they all will fall, no more than a breath on the wind.

This might be my favorite album of the year.  Like Jaq, I'm a massive Malazan Book of the Fallen fan, yet I would still love this album had I never read the series.  There atmosphere and tone of the album is spot on...some of the most epic music I've ever listened to...very immersive.

That guitar tone is part and parcel of the sound of Summoning, the band that Caladan Brood draws a lot of inspiration from, and, honestly, at this point, I listen to enough black metal that I barely notice it anymore  :lol

I suppose I should start listening to Summoning, then.

So even after approximately the tenth listen, this album is still freaking perfect, and "Wild Autumn Wind" remains one of my favourite songs of the year.

Yeah this is a good album. Very reminiscent of Summoning's work.
