Original orchestral piece
« on: November 11, 2013, 08:01:01 PM »
This is something I wrote on the guitar, and always wondered how it would sound if it was arranged for an orchestra. So, I did it. Programmed this entire thing, one instrument at a time, one note at a time. There are about two or three weird sounding accidental tempo changes, so try to ignore those. I arranged this as a project to teach myself how to use the program, so try to be understanding if something sounds weird here or there. And also try to ignore how midi some of the instruments (primarily the flutes) sound. Overall though, I hope you all enjoy.  :D

Sounds good. What sample library did you use?

Nice work, the orchestral pic makes it sound more orchestral actually, haha.

Here's something I composed, in finale, note by note like you said. I love composing, it just take so much time. I actually composed an album worth of pieces once, about 50 minutes, and I was really proud of it.
Here's a minimal piece I did:

And a slightly more epic piece:

Pretty cool stuff, guys  :tup

And yeah, composing stuff like this is extremely time consuming.  For me, writing and recording music generally takes about 1 hour per minute of music.  And that's for prog/metal with me writing three instruments: Drums, Guitar and Bass.  I would think that doing a full orchestra (brass, strings, woodwinds, keyboards and harp, percussion) would take forever!

Depends on the program you use. If you use a program just to write the sheet music with instant playback (albeit midi), it doesn't take so long (See Musescore). This is more if you just intend for it to be played live, instead of recording it.
