If only Train of Thought had been out back then!  Howard would be so happy.

Prog Snob

I was listening back when he played that on the air.   :lol

Syzzle

*listens to 10 seconds of the song* "I think all these guys do is play music"

You don't say?

He had AC/DC perform in his first movie.  That's the kind of music he likes.  To each his own I say.

Howard doesn't like Kevin Moore?!  I no longer like Howard Stern!  :P

Seconded. Talk about 2 dimensional musical tastes.

lol "organ player"

"I don't hear any singing"

"too orchestral"

Idiot

KevShmev

I'm sure he'd be happy to know that Kevin Moore took his casio home after recording the album and never came back. :lol

kirksnosehair

..."that'd be my first move if I were their manager...I'd fire half the band..."

Which half?  :P

I like how he says "orchestral" like it is an insult that doesn't require further explanation. And also how he decided "Dream Theater sucks" from listening to like... 45 seconds of Dream Theater.

I'm sure he would have had lovely things to say about JLB too if he had the attention span necessary to get to him. I mean, even when he was doing the "first 5 seconds of every track" thing he stopped well before The Silent Man.

And of course the best is "I think these guys just play music," because it tells you all you need to know about the perspective of the talking idiot.

...and that he never used the Casio with his later projects either :lol

Sounds more 1-dimensional to me, but that's just linguistic semantics. :lol He couldn't even wait for vocals to come in on Caught in a Web which takes less than 30 seconds, which is fairly average time for vocals to come in during a song by any band. Not to mention, the comment "these guys just play music" well DUH they're musicians. :lol Vocalists play music too! Why do people define music as being separate from vocals?

He is joking. That's all he ever does. Howard Stern insults whoever he can for fun.

There is a LOT of butthurt in this thread. Really, what Howard Stern says about prog metal bothers you?

I don't think anyone is actually mad, or at least I'm not. I'm just laughing at how much of a dolt he makes himself out to be in that segment. But what he says doesn't BOTHER me, because who really cares what Howard Stern thinks about Dream Theater aside from Howard Stern?

Exactly. I'm making fun of him making fun of Dream Theater.

Chino

I'm sorry, but that was fucking hysterical.

TheAtliator

I just forget sometimes how shallow and stupid some people are. They just choose to limit life's potential, it's disgusting! Listening to a piece of art for 10 seconds while talking over it and thinking you know what it means in regards to an entire career?? Yuck.

I didn't find it funny at all.  I don't give a shit about people making fun of DT, but that just wasn't comical to me at all.

That's the thing, I'm sure there were a ton of listeners back in the day who gave all sorts of shit about what Howard Stern had to say. I mean, yeah, okay, people like that are complete tools, but still, I can just imagine a couple douche bags sitting there going, "Oh, I don't listen to Dream Theater cause Howard Stern said they suck."

Maybe Howard Stern is the reason why Awake never got as popular as IAW :lol

Let's just go with that. In fact, everything that ever went wrong in DT's career is Howard Stern's fault!  :yarr

It might have not been successful, but it was orchestral.

QuoteWill Dream Theater ever appear on the Howard Stern show? faq id: 99
MP: I am a tremendous Howard Stern fan!! It is very cool that he still uses "The Mirror" on the show. I think that was Fred's doing back in '94 when Awake came out. In fact, right after Awake came out and they just started using The Mirror in & out of commercials, Howard stopped the show and was like "Woa, what was that? That was really cool..." Fred gave him the CD and he then spent a few minutes going through each track. Him & Robin ended up totally bashing us!! "The keyboards ruin everything" , "Do these guys even have a singer" etc. It was the most awesome bad review we ever got! I loved it so much, I had it on my answering machine for months!! As far as going on his show, I think we're too normal for him. We're all married with kids! He'd be bored!

19 years ago at that........ :lol

black_biff_stadler

On the flip side, I remember one of his callers bashing Richard Christy's drumming when he was playing live in the studio. For those unaware, Richard has been with Howard for some time now.

Madman Shepherd

Howard Stern sucks.  unlike him coming to a judgment about something after being exposed to it just minutes before, I have seen/heard plenty of Howard Stern to make an accurate assessment of him.
