So you guys kicked ass. Great start. Just saying not to expect scores to be this high all the time.
Y'all just did really well.
adace:
Alcest - Souvenirs D'un Autre MondeYou just narrowly dodged the forbidden bands list here.
I am familiar with Alcest and do like them, but I accepted this song because I haven't given them a good listen in a while, and because this comes from the one Alcest album I have yet to listen to, although I do have it on my computer.
Now onto the song. Well it's definitely the Alcest I remember.
This is definitely one of the better things I've heard of them though. The strummy guitar intro sets a nice tone that the rest of the song continues strongly. Neige's vocal melodies are beautiful as ever. Alcest by the numbers, but me likey.
8/10Shadow Ninja 2.0:
Alchemist - Letter to the FutureCool song really. The harsh vocals sound rather demonic, which is a nice touch. The spacey synth at about 1:07 was kinda strange to put in, but I didn't mind.
And every now and then some cool riffage would pop up (the 1:36 section
). Overall, solid tune. I didn't love it beginning to end, but overall strong send.
7.5/10Lucien:
Paul Winter Consort - Wolf EyesInteresting choice to open the roulette. The saxophone (?) that the song is most focused on sounds rather whiny, but I thought it really set the song's mood, and gave the song a sort of unique flavour. I'll admit I thought it was boring my first listen, but after a couple listens I started to dig the whole atmosphere. The way more instruments gradually come in is another thing I really enjoy. Like I said, very interesting choice, but you did good.
8.5/10Outcrier:
Akira Yamaoka - A Stray ChildSpeaking of interesting choices, here we have video game music. I knew the name Akira Yamaoka sounded familiar, and I thought I might have heard of him doing the soundtracks to the Silent Hill games. Sure enough, I was right about that. Never played the games myself, but the soundtracks are spoken of highly from what I know. Now about the tune itself? Holy shit, this was great. It started off as dark ambient, but then trip-hoppy drums joined the mix. All the instruments that came in afterwards were heavenly. Damn this was a nice song to just space out to. Seriously convincing me to download the soundtracks to these games.
9.5/10 Tyrias:
Árstíðir - HeiðinAhh, you're definitely going out of my genre palette here. I've never really gotten around to checking out Nordic folk music. This is leaving a nice first impression on me though. Beautiful song, with a very full sound to it. And the louder section gave me an amount of chills. It didn't sound unlike what I expected Nordic folk to sound like, but that's not a bad thing at all. Good choice.
8.5/10Dark Castle:
Twenty One Pilots - Guns for HandsI like to look into the artists background as I listen to them in these roulettes, and seeing this band described as both indietronica and pop rap definitely left me intrigued.
The pre-chorus is the highlight of this one for me. I really like it for some reason. The chorus itself is also very good though, as is the main synth line.
I was waiting for a rap section to come too and it eventually did.
Honestly, don't think it fit so well, but it wasn't bad or anything. Overall, great tune.
8/10elefantStone:
Mew - HawaiiMew is another group I'm familiar with, but having only really listened to Frengers I left them off the forbidden list. I also haven't listened to Frengers very much because I never really got fully into it, so I was skeptical going into the song. However, the song is a different story. This is seriously better than anything on Frengers to me (although Comforting Sounds is pretty damned good). The intro is cool as hell with that tribal-ish vibe, and the really catchy, singable melody. The stuff that comes after though (mostly the section at 2:15) is even better. Quite a change in the mood of the song, but still retaining sort of a sunny mood (at least I think so). It's a really beautiful section, and Bjerre, who's voice I never really liked a lot, actually makes this song something great. He fits so well. Awesome choice. Maybe I need to start listening to these guys more.
9.5/10senecadawg2:
Les Discrets - Ariettes oubliéesYes, this was very Alcest. I liked the production better here though. The acoustic guitar had a really nice sound to it. I don't like the vocals as much as Neige's however, but they were still great. The sudden entrance of the distorted guitar was pretty damned cool.
Definitely some might fine blackgaze here.
8/10Lolzeez:
Leprous - ThornTo answer your question, yes I have heard Leprous. Only a couple songs though, no full albums.
This song was really cool though. It had a great sound, and I don't know how to describe why I felt that. Some neat melodies, and the harsh vocals were awesome as hell.
Loved the use of other instruments besides the conventional too. Maybe some day Leprous will progress beyond that band I like everything I hear from them but keep forgetting to fully check out.
8.5/10Outcrier and elefantStone take the initial lead.

Round 2: Send me something that'll make me wanna sing along. Doesn't necessarily have to be catchy, although that is a good example to follow. Something with a nice vocal melody you yourself like to sing along to even.
