So I am wondering what level of fan is most prevalent on the board. From the diehard to the barely casual at this point, I want to know the results.
I myself am still a diehard fan for the past 8 years since I discovered the band in 2005. Still love the band and listen a lot!
Discuss at great depth and length.

Diehard, been listening to them pretty much every day for the past 26 months. Casual fan for five years before that.

Definitely still a die hard fan. Every once in a while, I'll get into something else, or be in a certain mood, and might binge out on another band or another genre or subgenre for a week or so, but I always inevitably come back to listening to DT.

Fairly big fan. I was a diehard in 2009/10, but I've discovered a lot of new music and my tastes have changed a bit, so I don't listen to DT as intensely anymore. However, I still follow them actively and buy the new releases when they come out (I don't have LALP yet, but I'll get it soon).

Casual fan these days. Will buy any new CD that comes out and will keep an eye on what they're doing but I've tended to give the live DVDs a miss since after Score and a lot of their side projects tend to fall by the wayside, JLB being an exception.

Not clear as to why you're able to choose 2 options from the poll, but I chose the second option. In the past, I was a die-hard fan to the extreme, but over the last few years, I've tapered off a bit. More accurately, I'd say I'm somewhere between the first 2 options, and at times I still fit the die-hard description, but not to the same extent as I used to.

My LFM stats for the last 12 months probably sum it up:

I don't listen to music quite as much as I used to, but DT still dominates. Nothing else really comes close and most of the time when I think "what should I listen to now?" I end up just sticking DT on. It's actually getting worse now, since the only band I've really discovered this year have been Tesseract and I rarely listen to post-rock these days, so it's even more domination for DT. I've not been a fan for as long as a lot of you (only discovered them between 8VM and SC), so I guess my enthusiasm will begin to wane at some point, but they have such a large body of fantastic music, that I don't see anyone threatening their position as my favourite band any time soon.

Dream theater is easily my favorite band, but I don't listen to them quite as much these days as I used to a few years ago. Kind of ironic that joining DTF has caused me to listen to more non-DT than I did before.

#1 option, fan since May 2001, heavily in rotation since then and cannot get enough. My opinions have balanced out re: albums and how much I play some, but I am still fond of it all.

I'd call myself a fairly big fan. I like most everything they've done, and still listen to them a lot.

I haven't listened to them much recently, but pretty soon I'll probably cycle back into listening to them almost constantly.

Diehard fan. I've discovered more music this year than throughout my whole DT-listening career and my musical taste has changed a lot, but I still listen to DT every day and still absolutely love it.

Count me in as a casual fan.

I was diehard for a couple years, but have since moved on. I don't think I've listened to DT12 all the way through more than a couple times. Still, I'm indebted to DT for introducing me to what has become my favorite hobby: metal.

Yeah, same. Though they're not my favourite band, and I'd probably say that I'm a casual fan. I rarely put DT on anymore, though I don't necessarily skip them when they come up on shuffle.

If I was asked this 2 years ago, I would say I'm a diehard fan. Then I branched out and hear a lot more. Still love DT, just don't listen to them quite as often as I used to. SDOIT still my all-time favorite album, however.

I've been a huge fan since 1992. Granted I do skip some of the older stuff because I've heard these songs so many times. I still consider SFAM my favorite album of all time eventhough i haven't listened to the entire album in one sitting in a long time.

I still consider myself a big fan, although I don't listen to them much anymore (although I did crank through several albums in a row yesterday), and the last two albums didn't get many listens from me.

I became a fan around 3 - 3.5 years ago and was a diehard fan until a year ago. I still like DT and I usually listen to them once a month or so, but there are so many other great bands out there that I'm more interested in. I bought and enjoyed the newest album, but I probably won't listen to it much and I may skip Live at Luna Park.

Die Hard, but it comes and goes in waves. However, the high tides are more often than the low ones, but I always seem to find myself listening to them every now and then.

Whenever a new release comes around, I listen to them more, of course, and pretty much shut out every other band around me (with a few exceptions). Unfortunately for DT12, a ton of new prog has come out in the last month, so it's been pushed to the back burner, but LALP just arrived so I shall be pouring it into my ears over the next few weeks!

Option 2.

I don't listen to them non-stop like I did in the late 90s/early 00s, partly because I listen to so many other bands now that dedicating most of my listening time to a single artist is no longer realistic, and partly because I am not the diehard fan I used to be.

Pretty much die hard. I listen to plenty of other music but DT takes the top spot. They're so diverse that I normally don't actually have to change band if I want to listen to something kinda different, DT have enough material to suit any music listening mood.

This, very much. It's one of the things I love the most about the band. It also makes it easier to introduce them to people, as long as you know that person's musical tastes.

Fairly big fan. The fanboy phase is over but I still listen to them regularly, and I am still excited about each new release.
