Not necessarily, no.  The wire makes it shatter proof--i.e., if something smashes into it, it cracks and breaks, but you don't get huge shards of glass flying everywhere.  That wouldn't stop a bullet from going throught it.  Also, "bullet proof" glass has its limits.  How bullet proof it is is dependent on its rating, and is no guarantee that it will stop certain types of rounds fired by certain types of guns.  I don't know the specifics, but am just saying that "bullet proof" doesn't necessarily mean you are 100% safe.

That's true. I've looked into materials to use as blast shields for when I make blow stuff up in my back yard. I've seen a lot of stuff rated for up to what type of round it would be able to stop. "Proof was a bad word choice".

That's definitely bizarre. Only thing I can think of is that the is either hiding and they are searching each room. If you look at the pic I posted a few posts back, the building is in the shape of a + sign. The image isn't a proper representation. Each wing has probably 4 or 5 rooms on each side, and I believe it's 8 or 9 floors high (maybe more). It's in the dorm section of campus so I don't frequent it as a commuter. I spent two nights there about a year ago, and it's a fairly large building.  If they are searching room by room, it's definitely going to take a while.

I really hope it's not a hostage situation.

Well, I think they would only violently storm the place if there was an immediate danger. If the guy is now cooped up in some room alone, they will probably try to convince him to surrender.

Apparently SWAT is escorting some students out of the building and there are rumors circulating that there are hostages. NOT CONFIRMED. These rumors are expected in a situation like this. Fingers crossed.

I've seen that three were arrested, but no charges and I haven't heard of any weapons. I kind of figured it might turn out to be a complete non-deal. I guess you have to react like there's a threat, but you certainly have to temper it with the quality of intel you're getting. In this case it really seemed like there wasn't much credible to go on.
