Cooking to Music: Why Chefs Listen to Heavy Metal

I felt the need to post this article here because of the metal-loving chef that we have among us. I know first hand that chefs tend to listen to heavier music in the kitchen because in the few kitchens I've worked in, there has always been heavy music, and also when I cook in my kitchen I prefer something on the heavier side. I probably picked it up from them.

Has anyone else on the forums made John Petrucci's meatloaf?

I tried it. It was technically impressive, but it didn't have any soul or feel.

Cypress Hill is the best cooking music. I've always found that a good groove is important when cooking.

Sorry, I keep getting stuck right at this point and find it difficult to continue.

When I do cook, I love to blast music- it's not always metal...but it usually is.  (Although sometimes, depending on what I'm making, I'll bust out some Frank Sinatra to channel my grandmother).

It's really been ages since I've gotten to do it.  I'm currently living with my friend and her family, and there's ALWAYS someone home and hovering around the general kitchen area.  I like to "get in the zone" and crank my music and not talk to anyone...and I can't do that when there's always people around.  I couldn't even tell you the last time I even bothered cooking at home.  It's depressing really.  I can't wait to get out of here.

Nothing, no music is allowed in the kitchen, but I'd it were, it'd probably be Mexican banda music, I kinda lose the numbers battle there.

I omit the chestnuts because I don't like them and use bacon instead of panCHEH-tah because Natalie Portman's big-tittied doppleganger said that's okay.

I also made this on that same night: https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/panettone-bread-pudding-with-amaretto-sauce-recipe/index.html

When I'm *really* getting into some cooking, I like Stevie Wonder and Earth Wind & Fire and 70s funk - played loud.  Stuff I can sing and groove along to while I'm stirring, whipping and cracking!  :D

I do remember one place I worked at where the majority of the cooks were non-Mexicans. We kept the radio tuned to the classic/hard rock station, and certain songs just made everyone fucking lose it. Master of Puppets comes to mind, six guys with knives and hot pans walking around the place headbanging and singing along. Good times.

I’ve watched Giada on TV hundreds of times, and I never noticed any recipes being discussed. Are you saying she hosts some sort of cooking show?

Amazing how much culinary knowledge you can pick up subconsciously whilst rubbing one out watching that glorious cleavage.
