Oh ok. Well. For people like me who are just fine with the CD version, i'll stick with that. :)

But now that I know that such things exist - I might wait for the HD version next time around.

Thanks a lot!!

So if I have already the cd, I have the obligation to pay again ?? Charming!!  :censored

Thank you DT!! :tdwn
Nobody is forcing you. The CD is perfectly acceptable for me. I'm not gonna dish out another £12 when I don't need to. If I get the HD download - it's just audio - you don't get anything to look at etc.

Actually it comes with all artwork and lyrics, basically the entire booklet.

JP confirmed that they will be doing this with all releases...for the audiophiles...very thoughtful of them. Also, the other Roadrunner albums will be released in HD by HDTracks as well. Thank you DT! Now we don't have to worry anymore.

And so I will probably never buy a physical Dream Theater CD ever again.  It's pretty messed up that they are doing this actually.

Do the HD tracks come on a CD that I can play in my car, or are they just computer files? Are they burnable? Do you need a special disc or player?
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

They come as different lossless file types (I chose FLAC) which you can burn onto a CD and play on any regular system.

It's funny to compare people's reactions to this album in France and in the US.

In France (see and translate by yourself on the YourMajesty forum), the album is much, much less appreciated than in your country...and it's an euphemism.  :omg:

You bet! I'm still a member on YM but completely stopped posting. It's DT bashfest there : what buggers me most is the people who had decided they wouldn't like the album even before it was released.

Anyone worried about getting the HDTracks version instead of the CD due to the booklet, don't worry, it comes with everything. Its not physical but no matter really. Physical cds are on their way out soon enough anyway, but that's just my take.

When bands stop putting out CDs - people listening to shitty mp3s will be the norm.

Which is ridiculous.

Sorry Everyone but Surrender To Reason is my Breaking All Illusions of this album.

It's in the " it's not bad but it's my least favourite on the album and can't hear what everyone else hears in it. "  camp.

I totally agree, but that's where its already heading in this 256 kbps variable nitrate download world.

Yeah, I noticed that on a german forum, too. At some point they decided not to like DT anymore and there is nothing going to change that. Not even the best thing the band did in many years.

About 3 three listens into the album and I think its fantastic.  SO much to listen to and I'm still consuming all of it, but right now I'd say my favorite songs are:

Illumination Theory:  Simply astounding.

The Bigger Picture: The soaring melodies, just, wow.

The Looking Glass: Damn straight its got the Rush influence! and its great.

Surrender to Reason: Great tune, especially the JM breakdown.

Definitely better overall than ADTOI, which I loved and rank in my top 5 all time DT albums.

More thoughts to come... but right now I'll continue to enjoy one of the best full albums released in a while.

Some people are so stubborn.

DT have a new album out and it's their best for about 15 years !

Meh - I stopped listening after Falling Into Infinity. :dunno:

Serious question.  Now that the album is out, is there any reason for this thread to remain open?

Yes.  It is really the general discussion thread for the album.  No need to lock it and have another one spring up in its place.  However, no need to keep it stickied.
