Coursera

Has anyone taken courses with Coursera? I identified two courses that a kinda relevant to my work (Linear Programming and Analysis of Algorithms) and I signed up for them, they will start soon. Looks pretty cool overall, and they really get top-notch people to teach them.

Sister-in-law highly recommended this site to me but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

I've never taken a course but I've only heard good things.  Hell, I think I might sign up for Analysis of Algorithms.  I'm not too familiar with a good portion of the subject matter and it'll be good preparation for my CS theory courses over the next couple years.

Dang, I just finished my first home assignment. Gotta say, that's the real deal. Had to sit down with pen and paper and do some linear algebra, and the plug it all into Matlab to get the solution.

Ugh. After almost a month of exams I don't see how you could ever enjoy this.

But I will again soon enough. :)

I'm not seeing any prices on the site. What are the prices like?

The courses are free, that's the trick. I'm not paying a penny, for a really high-quality course.
And before you ask, they ask for money when you want to be accredited for the course. They have some kind of signature scheme that establishes it's you doing the homework and exams, and then you get a certificate at the end.

For the course I'm taking, 30,000 people have signed up. But, statistics say that about 5% actually finish it to the end.
