I've been listening to a lot of this kind of thing in recent months. Many artists people talk about tons and I'd put on my "to check out" list years and years ago and they've just been sitting there stewing ever since.
I've been expanding on my Tim Buckley collection. Lorca is a stunning album. Very avant garde and out there, but just incredible folk.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIlB9p9psEoDamien Rice's My Favourite Faded Fantasy was a nice comeback. Probably about as good as his older albums.
Iron and Wine's The Shepherd's Dog is an awesome album. Though I don't think I'm interested in his earlier albums, or later ones, as his voice is pretty unspectacular, but musically, this album is really fun.
About to really start digging into Nick Drake and Bon Iver.
But my biggest discovery of the past six months or so is an English folk/rock singer/songwriter called Ben Howard. Almost every song he's released since his early EPs is great, and his latest, I Forget Where We Were, is totally unbelievable, my favourite album in years.
From that album, Conrad
