Bumped for Back to the Future Day tomorrow, 10/21/15

Is anybody flying over to see BTTF Pt. II tomorrow at their local theater? Anybody wearing their pants inside out to work tomorrow? I'm thinking about it.

So when did Rock and Roll properly kick off ?

Did they not have the 12 bar blues in 1955 ?

p.s. I'd love someone to do a split screen of the endings from part 1 & Part 2 to see how similar they are.

I just checked and the contents of the bin are identical. Maybe they re-used that shot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htyYy9ML5rk

They're only showing the first movie at the theater here, for some strange reason. Maybe I'll just play Wild Gunman instead (which is actually nothing like the BTTF2 version btw).

I still wanna know what was supposed to happen on Doc's 1955 Hill Valley model with the electric and the model car :lol

I've always wondered the same thing, and found it so hilariously absurd. :lol

Someone pointed out somewhere that if you do go back in time - then The Earth might not be at that point in orbit and you'd just be floating in space...

That's an angle I never really considered before.

Well that's weird.

I was watching BTTF 1 last night and wondered for the first time why - at the dinner table in the beginning - Marty is on one side of the table and the others are on the other.

I'm reading an article today and it's deliberate because Michael was so busy on his TV show - that in the shots where it's any other actor in close up - Michael isn't on set.

Haha. Now i've just read that Crispin Glover was a pain in the arse to work with. That does not surprise me. He thought he was the lead character in the movie and insisted on being paid more...

He would resist notes from the Director and wanted to do things that were contrary to his character and continuity.

.. then he had a massive hissy fit when they recast him for the sequels and used footage of him from the first movie.

That's an angle I never really considered before.

I always assume it's either-
A) gravity keeping the time machine in place as it goes through time.
B) the time circuits calculate the corresponding location in space.

I hadn't noticed MJF not being in the same shot, although I was aware of the scheduling issues with Family Ties.

I believe Crispin Glover is the whole reason there are now laws about using an actor's license without permission. Apparently he objected to the ending of the first movie, because he felt like Marty was getting monetary reward from changing the past, rather than getting his parents back together being payoff enough for the movie.

He mentions Marlon Brando as an influence and now it's obvious he just means " a jerk and difficult to work with " :lol

Yeah the denouement to the first movie has all sorts of problems but it's a great pay off so it doesn't matter.

Would George & Lorraine have the exact sam kids at the exact same time and live in the same house etc etc... Marty would have a lifetime of new memories and

may not even be in the same school with the same friends etc etc. .

Even a difference of a second could mean the difference between having a different kid, and having a completely different life as they now do would definitely change when they're having kids.
I haven't seen many things that actually address that. The main one that comes to mind at the moment is some crummy time travel related movie with Rachel McAdams.

It doesn't matter because it's a perfect ending.

I just watched the dinner scene again just now and you only see all of them in the master shot so either they got that done while they could or they split-screened in Michael later.

- which may have given them the idea for the same scene in the future part of BTTF2

EDIT : Here's a Spielberg quote that Blob won't agree with

" Part 2 is a little dip in the trilogy - like Temple Of Doom "

I agre with the Temple of Doom bit for sure :p

BTTF2 is probably my favorite of the trilogy. You get normal 1985, the future, alt-1985 and then the different take on 1955. The first one is a classic obviously, but I always liked how BTTF2 gave us a different perspective on the 1955-storyline, as well as all the great stuff in the first hour. Hoverboard and the flying DeLorean for example. The third movie is genuinely great as well, I'd say it's one of the few trilogies where all three movies hold up. (A few others being Star Wars and LOTR)

It is one of the best Trilogies for sure. if not *the* best.

And a 4th one would just be shitty and spoil the legacy.

And we *sort of* have the studio to *thank* for it ?

They wanted to make a second one and basically said " We're making another one - you can do it or we'll find someone else "...

The 2nd one would be very different if Zemeckis and Co. decided not to do it themselves. . .

The reason for Chris Lloyd having a "facelift" in Part 2 is so that he didn't have to have the prosthetics put on every day.

I still can't notice much difference to this day :lol

There were prosthetics? :lol I just took it as a joke lamp-shading the fact he didn't visibly age between 1955 and 1985. He was apparently around 35 in 1955, which makes him about 65 in 1985, but it was all the same.

I notice they removed the references to Queen Diana for obvious reason, changed/added some side headlines, and changed/added a lot of other things, since it wasn't originally meant to be actually read. I'd love to get my hands on one of these, even if it isn't screen accurate size.

P.s. I always thought that when he asks for a "tab" in 1955 and a "pepsi free" . I always assumed until last night!!!!! He was asking for a tab and a Free pepsi... :lol

I was watching on my tv with subtitles on whilst browsing the internet and Pepsi Free and Tab were in capitals so it finally made sense

Chris Lloyd said he would do another movie. I'm sure he plays Doc Brown at the drop of a hat :lol

I'm *hoping* it's because he loved the character and not JUST because he gets paid :lol

I feel like the original trilogy is so magical that if they were to make a new BTTF movie, I'd prefer it to be a reboot with possible guest appearances by Lloyd/Fox, maybe showing up as cameos. I love them in the BTTF movies, but the trilogy just works so well and ends on a nice note. I feel like seeing an almost 80 year old Doc Brown or seeing Marty in his 50s doing the whole "Thats heavy Doc" might do more harm than good.

There's definitely more interesting time eras you could explore in a BTTF movie, but what I always liked was that the time travels were connected to the characters somehow, and that relatives of them appeared, like Marty meeting his young parents, or us seeing him older in the future. I believe Zemeckis has said that BTTF stays untouched as long as he is alive and breathing, but if he eventually dies and can't fight that battle anymore, the studio will definitely try to push it.

Zemeckis also said he wants to figure out how to pass on the rights to his family so it'll never revert to

the studio. Also both he & Bob Gale have to pass on before the studio gets it.

I hope they both live to be 100 :D

I think BTTF is similar to Jurassic Park in the sense that you could reboot it in 2015 (like Jurassic World) and still capture that fun light essence of the original movies, but it's really all depending on WHO makes it. There's a lot of cynical cash grabs where you can tell nobody cared and the movie is just made for financial gains, and you throw some references in there, but there's also the few times when you notice they did care, and the result is a fun movie.

It definitely doesn't NEED a remake, but I think in maybe 10 years we'll have one any way. I'm almost chocked it hasn't happened yet to be honest.
