80s Glam/Metal Vocal Showdown #1: Bach vs Coverdale
« on: August 02, 2013, 11:01:47 PM »

Ok boys and girls, let's start it with a light heavy-weight match-up.  Both these guys have been around the horn, and have endured the test of time.  I'd say both had a lull in the 90s, but made a nice comeback in the 00's.  Both Skid Row and Whitesnake were favorites of mine, and the Coverdale years of Deep Purple, and the Coverdale-Page album were top notch.  This is a tough one, as Bach was the guy I somewhat idolized as a vocalist for a couple of years when Skid Row first hit the scene.  Dat hair!!!  He's quite the character, but he's got an ego the size of Texas.  Coverdale was banging the chick responsible for many of my own teenage orgasms  :eyebrows:  Can anyone hear Here I Go Again and NOT picture Tawny!?!?

Still, Bach it is.  Skid Row s/t is a top 10 album of all time for me, and his contribution to An Absence of Empathy made that album a top 5 find from the last 10 years.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

Oh fuck you, jingle. :lol

Love 'em both. Musically, Coverdale has been involved with MUCH more music I love, even recently, and contributes a lot musically. And his vocals are consistently good in the studio, even though his voice is showing its age in recent years.
Bach only has the two Skid Row albums that I care for at all, but his voice has held up well, and his vocals on Slave to the Grind slay. Wasted Time. Enough said.

I'll ponder this one over a bit, I think.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Awesome match up! Have to go with Bach though; his performance on the Slave to the Grind album is unreal.

I ended up going with Coverdale, but I love both, and listen to both regularly.
Bach was crazy good on the first two albums, especially Slave to the Grind, but he hasn't done a single song since that I've really enjoyed, and his voice hasn't impressed me as much since. Coverdale has had a much more consistent output over a long period, and he has such a distinctive voice and style, and even at 60+ his lower register tone is amazing.
Also he's just the classiest dude in rock.

Went for Coverdale, mainly for his bluesier early 80s stuff rather than the later 1987 onwards stuff after his vocal problems. And today I'd rather hear me sing than listen to David. And he sang on Burn, an awesome song and album. And one of my favourite love songs of all time- Lie Down (A modern day love song). And the contribution to rock over decades. So yeah, not a difficult choice after all.

Bach was awesome on those first two Skid Row albums but I'd rather listen to Come An' Get It-1987 era Coverdale.

I'd say Coverdale. Not the biggest fan of either though.

Coverdale.  As previously mentioned, he's got a much larger body of great work.  And I usually am able to separate my opinion of art from the artist, but Bach is such a flaming douche that it makes it harder for me to enjoy his music.

I really dig Coverdale's contributions to rock but... Slave To The Grind is one of my all time favorite vocal performances. I voted Bach.

Oh shit.  This sucks.  I love Bach, but I had to go with Coverdale.  If it's between Slide It In and any Skid Row song, I would always choose to listen to Slide It In.  That said, douche or not. Bach is ridiculously awesome.

Bach

Those three Skid Row albums with him are my favorite glam metal albums ever. One can argue whether Slave to the Grind and Subhuman Race are actually glam metal, but whatever, the self-titled is and it's a helluva lot of fun.

I like Coverdale, but I've never cared for Whitesnake that much and I've never cared enough to follow his other releases, sans Burn.
