please suggest a keyboard
« on: July 28, 2009, 07:52:30 PM »
I am looking for a keyboard that has midi or usb capabilities, but also has built in sound.  it needs to have a pitch bend wheel as well
I want it to be a normal keyboard number of keys, or larger, just nothing small.  [this is for studio recording]
I am in the $200.00 price range.

also, if you wanna recommend an inexpensive sustain pedal, that would be good too.

THANKS!
lol, put this in the wrong forum.  :(

You should invest a little more of money and upgrade from the Casio to a Yamaha. Casio keys suck, I don't even know if you can use 'em as controllers.

Oh, I see. I of course recommend a little Yamaha synth, but if you want the Casio I won't stop you.  :D

I don't want little, just because This is prog, and so the keyboard solos will be allover the place. lol.
+ this one is good.  It has usb/midi outputs. 3 level touch sensitive keys [touch sensitive 2 levels, + off] 200 something voices for the built in speakers, 6 track recorder, and 42 notes can be played at a time. pretty great for 200 dollars.

Do you plan on using the internal sounds for recording? If so, do NOT get a Casio.  ;)
The Yamaha PSR series isn't spectacular either, but still better than Casios.
Surely one day they'll work out it would be simpler and far more legal just to suckle on each others' teats in a kind of wonderful 69 of eternal calcium goodness.

I know its too late, but I have a Yamaha S-03, and it's been a reliable piece of equipment, I bought it Jan. 2002.  It's a full out synth though, so it might be more than you need, but I've gotten my money's worth on it.

So, I didnīt want to start a new thread, but I also need a recomendation. Weīre started rehearsing with some friends and I need a keyboard with the following features: decent piano/strings/brass sounds, capability of splitting the keyboard into different sections with different sounds, and an easy way to switch sounds/programs. Iīm thinking about a PSR-600 or something like that, I can find some in ebay around $200. Do they sound nice?

Thanks.

Yeah. PSR's are quite good for their price. You're not going to get super real piano/string sounds, but you get some rather cool patches. I'm not sure if you can do splits on a PSR, though. If you can, I'd certainly tell you to go with that.
