Sweeney Todd was great. It was nominated for Best Picture
While Sweeney Todd was good, Avatar & The Blind Side were also nominated for Best Picture....

This. I appreciated that Sweeney was a good work, but by that time already I was getting pretty tired of HBC, Burton, and his wife.

I think the only reason i still watch Burton's movies is because I NEVER get tired of HBC. She's so hot, that when they turned her into an ape.....she was STILL hot!  :rollin

I didn't realize there were people out there who even thought this was still a question. I thought we as a society acknowledged they were both creatively dead a long time ago. Both will continue to rake in money, but their name attached to anything will pretty much assure that I stay away nowadays.

If "society" has acknowledged this, then where is all the money going to come from?

A Depp, not Burton film I really liked was, "The Man Who Cried".  Very historical type film with escaping Russian Jews, opera and Christina Ricci (always a plus).  Also John Turturro and Cate Blanchett.

Check it out on Netflix!

My wife and daughter were watching "Chocolat" yesterday as I walked into the room.  Watched maybe five minutes of it, the lead guy looked familiar, but I just couldn't place him.  Johnny Depp, without all the makeup, playing a "normal" guy, not all eccentric and weird, and I didn't recognize him.

He really is a great actor, and I understand him wanting to take on unusual, off-the-wall roles.  I just wish he'd mix up a few more normal ones in there.

Another (IMO) great, and often overlooked Depp flick, is Nick of Time.

It's a sort of "thriller" which also stars Christopher Walken as the bad guy.   It's a bit of a predecessor to 24, in that the movie takes place in about 90 minutes of "real time"...

Nick of Time rocks!   Chocolat is grand, with a nice soundtrack.

Depp is very good.  So is Burton.  They just need to get out of their respective ruts.

Johnny Depp is actually a great actor, just has been doing the same role for a long time now. He needs to get back to not huge block busters aimed at families again.

This. So much this it hurts. Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas has some of the best acting I have ever come across.

Let us not forget Gilbert Grape.

Absolutely. Gilbert Grape has my favourite Depp acting.
Depp and DiCaprio we're brilliant in that movie. I would love for Depp to go back to drama or something like that. The first POTC were great and what he did with his character was brilliant and fun but it became sort of a recipe for success.

He is with out a doubt a great actor but as many have said, he just haven't choosen a movie for some time where that shines through.

Alice In Wonderland sequel confirmed but Burton isn't directing.

Flop no.4 for Depp ?

Because the first one wasn't bad enough!

I never bothered with it.

a.) Johnny Depp

b.) Tim Burton

c.) 3D

However - it must be the first hit film Crispin Glover has been in since Back To The Future ? :lol

My mistake, instead of society I should have said the critical movie going public.

Discerning movie goers. Not the type that go see a movie in 3D primarily for the CGI and action.

i.e. not the type of movie goes who goes to see Inception - is unable to follow it at all and buys a spinning top the next day.
