Caught in a Web appreciation thread
« on: July 08, 2013, 05:19:01 PM »
I was looking through Marc's Index of Albums & Songs Threads, and I noticed that Caught in a Web didn't have a thread listed.  Which doesn't really surprise me, because it seems like most people don't hold this song in very high regard.  But at the same time, I think it deserves its own thread.  I know I can’t be the only fan this song has.  I may very well be the biggest fan it has, but I can’t be the only one.

So, how about it?  Let’s appreciate some Caught in a Web, shall we?
Sincerely,
Jaffa

TBH, I rarely think about this song, and it ranks fairly low amongst its Awake brethren for me.

But taken on its own, this song rocks.  Can't wait to see it on the upcoming Blu-ray.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I love the song, it has a nice groove to it. Plus it is very different than any other DT song, there aren't many songs like it.

I only ever listen to the opening three songs on Awake and this is a top DT song for me.

I really love this song. It showcases what DT had going on Awake with John's heavy riffing contrasting Kevin's light playing. Plus James just tears this song up, with my favorite part being the "Woah" going into the last verse, after the instrumental section.

I would say it probably ranks third for me on Awake, after Scarred and Space-Dye Vest, but 6:00 and Innocence Faded are close.

James is incredible on this songs. I've always had a soft spot for this song. Not one of my favorites on the album, but in the 2nd tier for sure.

Great song, one of my favorites on Awake. Whenever I think about Awake, CIAW is one of the songs that immediately springs to mind.

Great tune, one of the first DT songs I heard and liked. James' vocals are amazing, the instrumentation has a nice groove and of course there's some cowbell!

One of my absolute favorite DT songs.  James gives an amazing performance and Mike has one of his finest drum moments IMO.

It is not only an amazing song, there's everyone's skills all over the place and it works VERY well after 6:00. I can't think of any part where something doesn't stand out. Definitely one of the best songs off Awake.

You know Lolz, you're the only that I've ever seen use that misheard lyric, and it's always kinda stunned me, because while there are many misheard lyrics moments on Awake, none of them EVER involve the chorus of CIAW for me.

On topic: cool song. Still one of my least favourites on Awake, but it's still great. Better than the two tracks surrounding it, that's for sure.

"cut" sometimes, yeah, so I guess I was a little absolute, but I have never heard anything about a whale anywhere near there. Sorry, but my ears are simply superior.

Your ears are probably finnished already. :neverusethis:

CiaW is great, epic vocals by James. And it's one of the few DT songs I can actually play on the drums.

DT song with a cowbell =  :metal.

Has been my favourites from Awake for ages. At first I disliked the instrumental section, it felt sloppy, but it has grown on me. And the fake ending is cool.

This is a fantastic song. Unfortunately it often gets overshadowed because it's on such a good album. On any other album it would get much more notice. And James is just incredible here

Absolutely stunning song! One of the songs that really spoke to me when I first listened to the song. I love Labrie and this may be Labrie's greatest vocal performance in this album, second to Scarred. I just love the raw energy he gives out.

One of the greatest riffs in this album, tied with the mirror and absolutely love the unison between Moore and Petrucci. His riff sounds soo crunchy!

Five minutes of epic listen and won't get bored of it no matter how many times I listen to it.

Still wish I knew exactly how Petrucci and LaBrie wrote the lyrics.

Did they sit in a room together?  Did one write the verse and the other the chorus?
